“So… it was captured just like that?”
Watching Terrance capture the Mawile in such a simple and direct manner, Jillian stammered.
“What else was I supposed to do, talk it into joining me?” Terrance laughed. With this Mawile’s violent temperament, even if he beat it into submission, it might not acknowledge him as its Trainer, let alone be persuaded by words.
If a Pokémon with top-tier combat power could be easily captured through mere persuasion, the whole world would be in chaos.
After capturing it, Terrance did not immediately release Mawile. Instead, he left the area of chaotic magnetic fields and arrived at a spacious canyon.
At this moment, Rotom Pokédex had already rebooted. It was still immersed in analyzing the magnetic fluctuations it had scanned earlier and was extremely interested in that special magnetic field.
“The intensity was at least ten times greater than places like Mt. Coronet and Vast Poni Canyon, Roto.”
“Ten times? If there wasn’t any external interference, then that’s indeed quite remarkable,” Terrance nodded.
Living in such an environment, this Mawile had honed itself exceptionally well, whether in its Steel-type moves or its combat skills.
Unfortunately, when it came to the Fairy type, this Mawile had yet to touch upon it.
“This Mawile’s potential has already been exhausted. Reaching this level is practically its limit. However, if I can use Fairy Aura to stimulate its potential and then train it a second time from the Fairy-type aspect, it may still have room to advance further,” Terrance thought as he took out Mawile’s Poké Ball.
Would that be enough to make this Mawile willingly follow him?
“Are you going to release Mawile here?” Jillian asked cautiously.
“Yeah. It’s still injured, so I’ll have Altaria heal it first.” As soon as he finished speaking, Terrance threw Mawile’s Poké Ball.
Along with it, he also released Frogadier’s and Togetic’s Poké Balls. Those two had suffered significant injuries under Mawile’s brutal assault as well.
The moment the three Pokémon emerged from their Poké Balls, they each displayed completely different reactions.
After quickly surveying their surroundings, Frogadier and Togetic immediately locked onto Mawile and revealed unwilling expressions, preparing to charge at it again.
Mawile, on the other hand, had gone through a series of bewildering events but remained highly vigilant. The instant it appeared, the mouth behind it opened wide as it stared at the Poké Ball in Terrance’s hand that had imprisoned it.
Destroy it…
That was the very first thought that arose in Mawile’s mind upon seeing the Poké Ball.
But before any of the three Pokémon could react physically, three streams of flame descended swiftly from above and enveloped them.
Altaria spread its wings and summoned the Flame of Life, beginning to heal Mawile and the others. Terrance naturally understood what Mawile was thinking at the moment, but he paid it no mind. Since Altaria could easily defeat it the first time, it could just as easily defeat it a second time. Once this Mawile recovered from its injuries, it should be able to recognize the situation clearly.
As the Flame of Life bathed them, Frogadier and Togetic immediately stopped moving and obediently remained where they were, silently waiting for their injuries to heal. They were obviously very familiar with Altaria’s Flame of Life.
Unlike Frogadier and Togetic, Mawile reacted with alarm. When the flames descended upon it, it instinctively tried to drive them away and was startled. However, it quickly realized something was wrong. These flames had no heat. Not only that, they were slowly nourishing its injuries and restoring its stamina. The moment it noticed this, a flash appeared in Mawile’s eyes. Both of its mouths opened, and it actually began absorbing the Flame of Life through a special method.
At that moment, the Flame of Life’s healing effect on it became noticeably stronger.
“Rotom Pokédex!” Seeing this, Terrance immediately shouted.
“Analysis complete. Mawile is using the moves ‘Power-Up Punch,’ ‘Snatch,’ and ‘Swallow,’ Roto.”
“The purpose of this technique is… to turn an opponent’s move into its own power?” Thinking of the mechanics behind those three moves, Terrance was instantly startled.
This Mawile was even more outstanding than he had imagined.
Was this combo the secret behind its dominance on this floor?
Come to think of it, was the move it used in the cave with the help of the magnetic field also based on Snatch?
Time passed quickly, leaving Terrance no room to dwell on it. The first to recover, Mawile turned toward the source of the flames – Altaria.
The instant it saw Altaria, Mawile’s pupils contracted. It still remembered the scene of being instantly defeated.
Mega Altaria had first used Fairy Aura to intimidate it, then drawn upon natural energy to strengthen itself. After its combat power skyrocketed…. Mawile had immediately been mercilessly one-shotted by the dual slaps of Altaria’s Dazzling Gleam and sheer power…
At that time, Altaria could already be considered a Legendary Pokémon capable of manipulating natural energy. It was essentially Altaria’s strongest combat state without borrowing Terrance’s power. No matter how strong Mawile was, it still couldn’t last a single move.
“Mawile!”
Just as Mawile was lost in thought, Terrance’s loud shout drew its attention.
“Do you remember what I said? Become my partner, and you can obtain even greater power. At the same time, I can take you out of here and let you challenge even stronger opponents in the outside world.”
“Maw~ile” Mawile had just revealed a disdainful expression when Altaria glared at it, forcing it to reconsider seriously.
It glanced at Altaria, unable to understand why a Pokémon so powerful would choose a fragile human as its leader.
After a while, Mawile slowly spoke after careful thought…
As Pokémon of the Super-ancient Pyramid, their way of thinking differed somewhat from that of Pokémon in the outside world.
“What will happen to me if I refuse?” Hearing Mawile’s question, Terrance revealed a strange expression.
What could happen… It certainly wouldn’t be exterminated.
“If you refuse, I’ll beat you up again and throw you back into that cave,” Terrance said bluntly.
Beside him, Altaria revealed an unfriendly expression and looked eager to act…
Seeing that Terrance wasn’t joking, Mawile’s expression changed repeatedly. It cast a wary glance at Altaria and took a small step backward…
Then it quickly nodded.
First, it knew it truly wasn’t Altaria’s match. Second, it already felt that it had reached its limit here. Although it was very unwilling to get involved with this unexpected visitor, Altaria’s claws really hurt…
Mawile shifted its gaze away from Altaria, repeatedly recalling that slap in its mind.
“You’ll be glad you made this choice today.” Terrance grinned. Having gained another powerful partner, there was no way he wasn’t happy.
Things had gone much more smoothly than planned.
Watching Terrance make Mawile accept its fate so easily, Jillian was stunned. She vigorously slapped her cheeks. This trip to the Super-ancient Pyramid had made her realize that her greatest gain was not the training itself, but meeting a real Elite Four in person and understanding the gap between herself and a true powerhouse.
