As Drake lost three Pokémon, the match entered the halftime break, and many spectators began discussing the previous battle.
“I feel like Elite Four Drake intended from the very beginning to trade Steelix this way for one of Master Terrance’s powerful main Pokémon.”
“Yeah, using Steelix to heavily injure Mega Gallade doesn’t seem like a loss. That way, Gallade can’t fully display its strength anymore. Most importantly, it reduces the threat from Mega Evolution. Given Gallade’s current condition, it probably can’t even sustain a Mega Evolution.”
In the first half, the battle between Terrance and Drake allowed many people to witness the extraordinary spectacle of a Hoenn Elite Four match. Whether it was Arcanine’s Reversal, Ninetales’ deadly ice explosion, or Steelix turning the tide, all of it thrilled the audience. At the same time, Terrance’s strength as a new Elite Four was highly recognized.
“Even Elite Four Drake is at a disadvantage. As expected of the rising star of the Champion League who defeated Mr. Norman—truly extraordinary.”
Inside Ever Grande Stadium, discussions were everywhere, and livestream platforms across various regions were buzzing nonstop.
In the second half, considering Gallade’s injuries, Terrance decided to let it recover inside its Poké Ball and instead sent out Gardevoir.
As for Elite Four Drake’s fourth Pokémon, it was a Charizard!
This was already the second time Drake had sent out a non-Dragon-type Pokémon, marking a major shift from his usual lineup. By deploying a Fire-type that wasn’t Dragon-type, his intentions were obvious.
“Gardevoir, use Misty Terrain.”
As soon as Terrance finished speaking, a surging mist spread across the field. Misty Terrain quickly enveloped Gardevoir, causing Charizard to lose sight of it.
This unfavorable situation couldn’t be allowed to persist. Drake knew that Terrance’s Gardevoir had excellent perception, and within the mist—Gardevoir’s home ground—Charizard would have no advantage. So he quickly ordered Charizard to use Fire Spin to disperse the mist.
However, what shocked everyone was… although the mist seemed to burn like a sea of fire, the flames had no effect on it whatsoever. This completely overturned the audience’s understanding of terrain moves.
“This Gardevoir’s mastery over Misty Terrain is that high…?” Sidney grinned, feeling a bit sorry for Senior Drake. Just Terrance’s endless trump cards were already a headache, not to mention that Altaria… and the rumored…
Among the audience, most people initially assumed it was simply Gardevoir’s high mastery of Misty Terrain. But as time passed, several Elite Four let out soft exclamations. In particular, Phoebe, who had the strongest sensitivity to psychic power, spoke in astonishment:
“Gardevoir has perfectly combined psychic power with Misty Terrain!”
This method of use amazed her. With such psychic power, most Trainers would channel it into Psychic-type moves, using their strange properties to defeat opponents. But Terrance had taken a completely different path—integrating psychic power directly into Misty Terrain.
As countless strands of mist turned into chains, breaking through the sea of fire and quickly binding Charizard, Terrance had already anticipated that many would try to imitate this battle afterward…
However, this was not simply using Confusion to control the mist; it was a fusion of psychic power and mist, a unique combat style exclusive to Gardevoir. This style was born from imitating Mewtwo and was not easy to master. Without special psychic power, the effectiveness would be less than one-tenth.
“Metal Claw!” Bound all over, Charizard retaliated with a Metal Claw, followed by a sweeping, venom-laced Fury Cutter. The combination of steel and poison allowed Charizard to quickly break free from the imitated Fairy Lock without affecting itself, and it quickly flew into the sky.
But the chains below surged upward, unwilling to let Charizard escape so easily. Up to this point, Charizard hadn’t even caught sight of Gardevoir and was already being mercilessly suppressed, like a pawn toyed with by Gardevoir.
The mist infused with psychic power seemed to be given elasticity; it was hard to disperse, hard to break apart, leaving Charizard with no solution. It could only fly higher, searching for a suitable moment to attack.
However, once Charizard reached the sky, it fell into confusion again. Within the mist below, it sensed nine different presences of Gardevoir. Under the influence of the mist, it had no idea which one was the real body.
“Calm down, Charizard,” Drake shouted, while he himself stared intently at the mist—
He couldn’t see through it either, but that didn’t stop him from making the right judgment: “Use poison mist!”
Upon hearing the command, Charizard opened its mouth and quickly spewed out a stream of purple wind, which rapidly merged into the mist. What was terrifying was that this purple wind eroded the mist far more easily than flames, and at an astonishing speed!
Poison mist was not a single move, but a combo of three—Smog, Toxic, and Heat Wave. Combined, they created a powerful poisonous wind that instantly devoured Misty Terrain. This time, even the Misty Terrain fused with psychic power began to dissipate, unable to withstand the purple wind.
“As expected of Elite Four Drake, using type change to counter the imitation of a legendary technique,” Terrance was briefly stunned, then smiled.
“But the outcome is already decided.”
At the moment Misty Terrain was being eroded, nine wormholes suddenly appeared in the sky from all directions, completely surrounding Charizard with no escape. This sight caused Drake and Charizard’s pupils to contract. They couldn’t understand how Gardevoir had managed to lock onto it…
“It was those chains formed from the mist, they left a mark on Charizard!” Drake suddenly realized.
After all, those chains were also a product of the fusion between psychic power and Fairy energy, embodying the variations of the Psychic Type!
The combination of Confusion Marker and Future Sight completely cut off Charizard’s escape. Nine psychic energy blasts shot out simultaneously. At the same time, Gardevoir wasn’t idle. Future Sight had already been calculated beforehand, and now what mattered more was something else…
Using Healing Wish, sacrificing itself to restore Gallade’s condition!
The move Healing Wish allows the user to sacrifice its remaining stamina and energy to restore a designated Pokémon’s stamina, energy, and status conditions!
The brilliance of this move lies in the fact that it can take effect during Pokémon switching, ignoring the Poké Ball recall-and-release mechanics. Therefore, it doesn’t violate battle rules and holds significant tactical value. At the moment Charizard was engulfed by the psychic energy blasts, Gallade regained its strength, replaced Gardevoir, and returned to the battlefield.
Gardevoir’s mist tactic was only suitable for one use. Elite Four Drake had already found a way to counter it, so it was no longer appropriate to have Gardevoir fight head-on. In this situation, Gardevoir used its own move to act as the team’s medic, restoring Gallade’s condition and aiming to create a greater advantage for the team.
