“Natural Gift has severe limitations. It’s very different from something like Xerneas directly drawing on the power of nature, and the energy from just a single small Berry is hardly enough to be of any help to Altaria at its current level. Still, this might be a direction to explore, after all, it’s the only move Altaria knows…”
Thinking of this, Terrance immediately called out to Altaria, “Altaria, use Fairy Aura together with Natural Gift to sense the energy of this tree.”
“Alt~aria!” On the other side, the at-a-loss Altaria quickly nodded upon hearing Terrance’s suggestion and followed his instructions, beginning to sense the Fairy energy and life energy within the berry tree created by Tapu Bulu.
The Kee Berry was a special kind of Berry that could be used with the Natural Gift move. It contained a rich amount of Fairy energy, and even when eaten directly, it served as an excellent training food.
This was because after consuming a Kee Berry, undergoing endurance training would improve defensive capabilities far more efficiently than training without it.
When Altaria began combining Fairy Aura with the Natural Gift to perceive natural energy, it immediately experienced something different. It felt as though countless points of light were floating before its eyes, all within reach. Among them, the easiest for Altaria to touch were Fairy energy and life energy.
Using Fairy Aura to mobilize these energies and the Natural Gift move to absorb them into its body, Altaria progressed smoothly. However, due to its lack of proficiency with Natural Gift, its initial absorption of Nature Power was extremely slow.
Even so, this was already a significant step forward!
As life energy and Fairy energy merged into its body, Altaria felt unknown changes occurring within itself, but it could tell these changes were beneficial.
As the changes intensified, all of Altaria’s physical attributes began to surge. However, it didn’t take long before the energy that had merged into its body dissipated, and its enhanced physical abilities vanished along with it.
“So it doesn’t work…” Terrance muttered, holding the Rotom Pokédex and analyzing Altaria’s current state, falling into deep thought as he searched for a solution.
He glanced at the still-dozing Tapu Bulu, scratched his head vigorously, and ultimately attributed the issue to proficiency. After all, many status moves worked the same way. The less proficient the user, the shorter the duration of the enhancement, and vice versa.
Directly drawing on energy from nature to strengthen oneself was far more powerful than boosts like Dragon Dance or Calm Mind. It was understandable that Altaria couldn’t maintain it for long.
“But without the first and second stage of special training, Altaria probably wouldn’t even be able to draw on nature’s power yet,” Terrance thought for a moment and said: “Altaria, try directly channeling the borrowed natural energy into your moves.”
Since it couldn’t sustain the energy within its body for long, it might as well use it to strengthen its moves. Terrance quickly made the decision, and Altaria acted just as swiftly, immediately using this method to unleash a Moonblast. The attack shot into the sky, blasting through several layers of clouds before finally disappearing from sight…
“Bu-lu…” After Altaria finished, Tapu Bulu opened its eyes in a rare moment and glanced at it, but soon closed them again.
Terrance subconsciously looked at Tapu Bulu, then reassessed the move together with Rotom Pokédex.
“Compared to its usual Moonblast, the power is indeed much stronger. But it’s still the same issue, the amount of natural energy it can draw at once is too little. It doesn’t provide any decisive improvement for Altaria at its current strength,” Terrance said slowly.
At present, the degree to which Altaria could draw on external life energy and Fairy energy made Terrance think of another move – Nature Power.
Attacking with Nature Power causes the move used to vary depending on the location. Compared to this move, Altaria’s current method differed in two ways: it could rely on its mastery over Fairy energy and life energy to integrate natural energy into itself and into its moves. However, the results were still far from ideal, nowhere near the level of Xerneas.
“But we have to master this technique!”
Terrance and Altaria both understood the limitless potential of this technique, so they didn’t mind the monotony of the training and once again devoted themselves wholeheartedly to it.
Among the three guardian deities, Tapu Bulu interfered the least in Altaria’s training. Its only role was to restore vitality of the berry trees after Altaria had completely drawn out their energy. Today’s training session also lasted the longest.
From morning until dusk, nearly an entire day had passed.
Throughout the day, Altaria continuously attempted to draw on the power of nature to strengthen itself or its attacks. By the end of the day, although it could draw more Nature Power at once, the actual increase in strength for Mega Altaria was still less than 5%.
However, the most valuable gain was that after a full day of training, Altaria had become extremely proficient in utilizing Nature Power.
As moonlight began to appear, Tapu Bulu finally awoke from its slumber, seemingly intending to end the day’s training. Unlike the other two guardian deities, it didn’t leave immediately. Instead, it took out a piece of red herb and gave it to Altaria, signaling for it to eat it.
“This is… an herb?” After examining it, Terrance found that although the item resembled an herb, it seemed to contain a mysterious power, even Rotom Pokédex couldn’t analyze it.
Tapu Bulu’s final gift was the last step of today’s training. Following its instructions, Altaria ate the red herb, and immediately became puzzled.
“Bu-lu!” After Altaria finished eating, Tapu Bulu nodded and directly set up Grassy Terrain. One tree, two trees, three trees… soon, the mountaintop was filled with Kee Berry trees. Finally, Tapu Bulu signaled for Altaria to draw upon nature’s energy once more.
Altaria complied.
At this moment, Ula’ula Island had already entered the night, and the streetlights were all lit.
However, this night was extremely unusual. Families all came outside, pointing at the sky in astonishment.
“What is that?” Inside the Po Town police station, former International Police officer and current Island Kahuna Nanu stared in shock at the moonlight that enveloped the entire Ula’ula Island, looking toward the distance in disbelief.
The original starlight had completely lost its brilliance under this sudden moonlight. The mist-like glow flowed across the sky above Ula’ula Island, causing the island’s residents to instinctively begin praying…
At the same time, on the other three islands, the three guardian deities also turned their gazes toward Ula’ula Island—toward that breathtaking moonlit sky.
“It’s that herb.”
After Altaria consumed the herb given by Tapu Bulu, the intensity of the Nature Power it could draw upon suddenly increased. If previously it could boost its strength by less than 5%, now… it had increased by a full 20%!
“Bu-lu!” As Tapu Bulu nodded, Terrance understood its meaning. He looked proudly at Altaria, who was launching a Moonblast into the sky.
“Drawing on Nature Power… Perhaps decades from now, when I look back on today, I’ll be very glad I witnessed the birth of a legend.”
After all, this was the ultimate dream of a Trainer.
