The special training content began with Fairy Control, followed by Life Control. The former involved controlling Fairy energy on a macro level, while the latter focused on understanding Fairy energy on a micro level. These two training sessions gave Terrance some new ideas.
Based on the two rounds of special training, Altaria was still in the foundational stage and had not yet come into contact with the true core of Fairy Aura.
During the second phase of training, thanks to its prior experience in fusing the Flame of Life, Altaria had developed its own insights into controlling life energy. Combined with Tapu Lele’s glowing scales, Altaria’s micro-level control over Fairy energy grew increasingly refined. This “micro” had already surpassed the conventional meaning, reaching into the very essence of Fairy energy.
The two completely different types of life energy now only produced minimal conflict.
As time passed, Terrance and the Rotom Pokédex also noticed changes in Fairy Aura. It was as if, after being merged with life energy, the vitality within Fairy energy had been activated, allowing Altaria to manipulate it freely.
This special ability reminded Terrance of a certain Fairy-type move.
Moonlight.
Like Morning Sun, Moonlight is a move that restores stamina depending on the weather. Its recovery effect is strongest when the moonlight is at its peak. Fundamentally, Moonlight is also an application of Fairy energy, likely relying on the life energy within Fairy energy.
“So that’s how it is… stimulating the full potential of Fairy energy through life energy, and allowing Altaria to completely comprehend its essence, that must be the main purpose of this special training…”
After three hours had passed, Altaria had undergone dozens of fusions. Gradually, it stabilized and found the optimal state.
During these dozens of fusion attempts, Tapu Lele continuously scattered its scales. After consuming a massive amount of them, Tapu Lele, like Tapu Fini before it, showed signs of fatigue, and the training session finally came to an end.
“Le-le~” After checking Altaria’s training results one last time, Tapu Lele nodded in satisfaction and began bidding farewell to Terrance and Altaria.
“Thank you, Tapu Lele.” Terrance patted Altaria’s head, and together they expressed their gratitude to Tapu Lele.
Alola is a land of sharing. The guardian deities of Poni Island and Akala Island had both shared their abilities to help Altaria train, which made Terrance feel a little apologetic. He wanted to do something in return for the guardian deities, but he didn’t know what he could do, so he could only silently remember this kindness in his heart.
After Tapu Lele left, in order to better prepare for the third day of training, Terrance continued reinforcing the previous two days’ training content together with Altaria.
Terrance also realized that the training was progressing step by step. He guessed that the third day’s training would likely involve the true core ability of Fairy Aura.
Ula’ula Island, the largest island in the Alola region, has several towns and towering snow-capped peaks.
Tapu Bulu is the guardian deity here.
Unlike the previous two guardian deities, Tapu Bulu is both a Grass-type and a Fairy-type Pokémon. Its special ability lies in controlling nature and governing the growth of vegetation.
On the third day of special training, atop a lush, green mountain somewhere on Ula’ula Island, Tapu Bulu was leaning against a tree resting. Only after Altaria arrived with Terrance did it slowly open its eyes.
“Bu-lu~.” Upon seeing Altaria, Tapu Bulu began explaining the content of the third stage of special training, and in the process, it caused a towering tree to grow.
Almost in the blink of an eye, the tree’s branches and leaves spread out, covering the entire mountaintop, creating an astonishing sight. Countless pink berries grew along its branches, looking incredibly appetizing.
“Kee Berry?”
Seeing the pink Berry, Terrance spoke in surprise.
This type of Berry was extremely rare, only found in specific regions. That Tapu Bulu could grow it instantly was truly incredible.
Compared to the other two guardian deities’ special abilities, Tapu Bulu’s ability was something many Grass-type Pokémon possessed, but to reach Tapu Bulu’s level of power… there were probably very few.
“Bu-lu~! Bu-lu.” As Tapu Bulu continued its explanation, Terrance came to understand the third day’s training content.
First stage: Fairy Control!
Second stage: Life Control!
Third stage: Nature Control!
Through the first two stages, Altaria’s control over Fairy Aura had already become exceptionally refined. Now, they were finally touching upon the most incredible power.
Back on Mt. Chimney, the reason Xerneas could gain the upper hand against Terrance’s Pokémon despite being outnumbered was precisely because it could effortlessly draw upon the power of nature and convert it into its own strength!
No matter how strong Terrance’s individual Pokémon were, they could not contend with nature itself.
Many Legendary Pokémon were revered by humans precisely because they possessed similar abilities.
For Legendary Pokémon like Xerneas, those deeply mastered innate powers were the true foundation of their strength. And now, Altaria was about to come into contact with the method Xerneas used to harness Nature Power.
“Can Altaria reach that level too?” Terrance asked Tapu Bulu.
“Bu-lu, Bu-lu.” Tapu Bulu shook its head, indicating that it didn’t know, and that everything depended on their own efforts.
Pointing at the berry tree it had created, Tapu Bulu then lay down to the side and promptly fell asleep…
Just like the rumors said, Tapu Bulu didn’t like being active and appeared very steady… but whether that was due to a calm personality or simply laziness was a matter of opinion. Now, seeing it doze off, both Terrance and the Rotom Pokédex came to their own conclusions…
“Well then…” Terrance and Altaria exchanged a glance and helplessly looked at the berry tree. Unlike the previous two guardian deities, Tapu Bulu didn’t seem to have any intention of guiding Altaria, so Altaria could only begin experimenting on its own. It could sense the rich Fairy energy and life energy contained within the tree, and it could even mobilize them, but how to convert that energy into its own power immediately stumped Altaria.
If it were that easy, there’d be no need for Ninetales’ Ice Moon tactic. They could just gather the power of the entire Fairy army into one body!
Terrance and the Rotom Pokédex both began thinking of solutions.
When it came to Pokémon best at drawing upon nature’s power, Grass-type Pokémon were undoubtedly the top.
Especially moves like Energy Ball, whose essence is gathering life energy from nature.
Beyond that, there were also certain Abilities—like Flash Fire, Water Absorb, Volt Absorb, and Sap Sipper—all of which involved utilizing external energy.
But all of these had significant limitations…
As for how Altaria should harness Nature Power, Terrance and the Rotom Pokédex each thought for less than a minute before suddenly locking eyes, having arrived at the same conclusion.
“Natural Gift!”
At the mention of this move, Terrance immediately smiled.
Back in the early days, the very first move he taught the newly hatched Swablu using his breeding methods was this one.
The essence of this move is to draw power from a Berry to attack. Depending on the type of Berry absorbed, the move’s type and power change.
Looking at it from another angle, wasn’t that precisely borrowing the power of nature?
