Facing these hundreds of attacks, Altaria quickly Mega Evolved, spreading out its Fairy Aura in an attempt to neutralize the Fairy Wind.
Most of the Cutiefly and Ribombee were quite weak, so the power of their moves wasn’t strong. However, their numbers were enormous. Countless streams of Fairy Wind surged in, making it impossible for Altaria to neutralize every single one at once.
Under normal circumstances, if it could use its moves, Altaria wouldn’t be this passive. But the content of this special training was precisely to force Altaria to rely solely on Fairy Aura to resist.
With over a hundred Fairy Winds, by the time Altaria had neutralized thirty or forty of them, the rest would already strike it all at once.
If not for the fact that the remaining Fairy Winds had been partially weakened by Fairy Aura, and that their users were weak, combined with Altaria’s outstanding overall stats, any other Pokémon taking so many attacks would likely have been instantly defeated in a single exchange!
But even with Fairy Aura, being hit by the storm formed from dozens of Fairy Winds in the first wave still left Altaria in a bad state.
Not only did its body suffer direct injuries, but it also felt the tearing pain of wind blades ripping at it. After all… it was purely relying on its body to withstand these attacks.
No matter how weak each move was, the sheer quantity made it unbearable.
“Altaria, hang in there,” Terrance couldn’t help but encourage it when he saw it struggling.
However, what Terrance feared finally happened. While Altaria was resisting the Fairy Wind, Tapu Fini’s dense mist had already enveloped it from all directions, trapping Altaria within. Inside the mist, Terrance could vaguely sense Altaria’s condition. It seemed to be under immense pressure. This pressure made it even harder for Altaria to control its Fairy Aura.
Just as this change occurred, the second wave of Fairy Wind from the Cutiefly and Ribombee arrived. Enduring the pressure of the mist, Altaria once again spread its Fairy Aura to neutralize the Fairy Wind, but the effect was not as good as in the first wave. With its control over Fairy energy through Fairy Aura, Altaria managed to neutralize only a dozen or so Fairy Winds before being hit by the massive explosion formed from numerous Fairy Winds colliding together.
After enduring the second wave, Altaria’s injuries worsened further. However, with its current willpower, it wasn’t enough to affect its condition or performance. Still, Terrance judged that if another attack of that intensity came, Altaria’s condition would inevitably begin to decline.
“What counts as passing? Neutralizing all the Fairy Wind under the pressure of Tapu Fini’s mist…?” Terrance fell into deep thought. He also felt the pressure. Judging by Altaria’s current progress, achieving this goal seemed extremely difficult.
In the past, Altaria had served as the core of the Ice Moon tactic using Fairy Aura, merging the Fairy energy of around forty Fairy-type Pokémon into the Ice Moon, like a master of fairies… But thinking back now, controlling the merging and transformation of that Fairy energy had taken quite some time, and the other Pokémon had deliberately cooperated with Altaria, which made its control over Fairy energy through Fairy Aura seem effortless.
But now, under the threat of over a hundred Fairy Winds, countless moves would bombard it in less than a breath. Altaria immediately found itself overwhelmed, and with Tapu Fini’s interference, its performance was further affected.
This development made Terrance realize that Altaria’s control over Fairy Aura was still very immature.
Very quickly, Altaria had already endured seven rounds of Fairy Wind. Under the immense pressure, what surprised Terrance was that although Altaria’s condition kept worsening, its control over the surrounding Fairy energy was actually improving!
After the eighth wave of Fairy Wind struck, Mega Altaria was heavily injured, with only a sliver of consciousness remaining.
At that moment, Tapu Fini manipulated the water in the sea, wrapping it in dense mist and splashing it onto Altaria.
The seawater shimmered with a crystalline glow as it flowed through Altaria’s body and mind. Then, to Terrance’s astonishment, Altaria’s injuries… began to rapidly recover. And after its wounds were completely healed, what was even more incredible was that Altaria, who had undergone eight rounds of extremely exhausting training, was now brimming with boundless energy and spirit!
“It’s said that Tapu Fini can create a special kind of water that purifies both body and mind. And to obtain this pure water, one must endure the mist it produces and gain its recognition. So this… is that water which purifies body and mind?”
Seeing Altaria’s transformation, Terrance instinctively compared pure water with the Flame of Life. In the end, he found that although the Flame of Life could also heal injuries, when it came to restoring energy, it was far less astonishing than pure water. However, the Flame of Life could unleash tremendous destructive power. Just how pure water compared in that regard remained unknown.
“Hang in there, Altaria!!” At this point, all Terrance could do was cheer it on.
Perhaps because it found Terrance too noisy, too disruptive, and too annoying, Tapu Fini glanced at him and immediately split off a portion of the dense mist to envelop him as well.
Caught within the mist, Terrance was instantly stunned. Feeling the dual pressure on both his body and mind, he suffered physically and mentally and found it difficult to concentrate. This caused him unbearable misery, and he finally experienced what Altaria had been going through.
However, in this state, Terrance unexpectedly discovered that the tempering effect on his psychic power was extremely effective. So he decisively began circulating his meditation method, unwilling to let this opportunity go to waste.
And so, under Tapu Fini’s control, the pressure of the mist gradually intensified, tempering Altaria’s Fairy Aura and Terrance’s psychic power. Half a day… passed slowly like this.
Terrance gradually lost track of how many times he and Altaria had undergone the baptism of pure water. Ten times? Twenty? Thirty? He couldn’t remember anymore. They both lost their sense of time, leaving only the struggle against the mist. Altaria had it even worse, as it also had to endure the endless onslaught of Fairy Wind.
It’s worth mentioning that with each baptism of pure water, Altaria’s ability to control Fairy energy would increase significantly, as if its power had also been purified. By the end of the special training, Altaria was already able to neutralize all the Fairy Wind simultaneously.
It even had enough strength left to compete with Tapu Fini for control over the Misty Terrain. Though every time, it was mercilessly crushed by Tapu Fini.
“Fi-ni~”
As the final instance of pure water scattered like droplets all around, Tapu Fini ended the special training, indicating to Terrance that its task was complete.
But—
“Tapu Fini, you…”
As Tapu Fini approached him, Terrance revealed a worried expression. The guardian deity of Poni Island now looked utterly exhausted, as if it had expended an enormous amount of energy.
In response to Terrance’s concern, Tapu Fini simply shook its head, then turned around to express its thanks to the Cutiefly and Ribombee. Naturally, those Cutiefly and Ribombee didn’t dare accept it. Instead, they were deeply grateful to Tapu Fini for giving them the opportunity to bathe in the pure water. As both sides exchanged thanks, Terrance once again expressed his gratitude to them. Soon after, the dense mist dissipated, and the Cutiefly and Ribombee all flew back to their respective territories.
