Through continuous meditation, Mewtwo had accumulated a vast ocean of psychic power, which had already been one of the foundations of its overwhelming strength. After successfully gaining control over the destructive factors within its body, the destructive power of this psychic energy had reached an unprecedented level.
Facing Mewtwo’s Psychic, Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre began struggling desperately. One radiated an immensely heavy and imposing presence, while the other displayed a quality capable of devouring everything. Under the resistance of these two forces, Psychic began to collapse, and several fierce veins bulged on Mewtwo’s forehead.
After signaling to Terrance, Altaria and Gallade quickly retreated. As Groudon and Kyogre counterattacked, Mewtwo’s powerful Psychic began to materialize, transforming into a Psyshock that blasted forward.
At that instant, Groudon and Kyogre seemed to explode. They were engulfed by a massive cloud of smoke before crashing back into the ocean.
Neither Groudon nor Kyogre had anticipated Mewtwo’s existence. After Mewtwo joined the battle, the two Super-ancient Pokémon were forced back again and again.
However, the adaptability of the two Super-ancient Pokémon was equally terrifying. Before long, they began attempting to use the power of their Abilities to erode the psychic force and form protection around themselves. With Desolate Land surrounding Groudon, any psychic wave approaching it would instantly begin to burn. With Primordial Sea surrounding Kyogre, it seemed to merge with the ocean itself, while the Aqua Ring it created formed a curtain that psychic waves found difficult to penetrate.
“Once Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre use their Abilities at full strength, their stamina will be consumed faster, and their natural energy will drain away more quickly as well. As long as we put enough pressure on them, they won’t have the energy to draw in even more natural energy. Then they’ll be forced out of their Primal forms. The outcome will depend entirely on what happens after that!” Terrance shouted.
“I understand.”
Like most living creatures, when Groudon and Kyogre faced danger, even stronger instincts erupted from within them. They had become stronger, but this was exactly what Terrance wanted to see. It meant they had begun consuming their stamina at a tremendous rate. Even when so many powerful human Trainers had pressured them together, they had never been pushed this far. There was no doubt about it, the situation had truly taken a turn for the better!
Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre used flames and torrents of water as barriers, weakening the effect of psychic power. As a result, even after Mewtwo’s mental attacks pierced through the flames and water, they were still dispersed by the two Pokémon.
The two sides began an intense exchange of offense and defense. After several high-intensity clashes, Mewtwo gave a cold snort, no longer willing to continue such a passive battle. In the next instant, its form transformed once again. Its body seemed to develop organs resembling a “hood” and “armor,” proof of the tremendous strength contained within its explosively developed muscles. Unlike its previous petite form, this Mewtwo gave off the impression of a Fighting-type Pokémon, with powerful vitality replacing its psychic energy.
Gathering a Thunder Punch in one hand, Mewtwo, now transformed into its X form, stopped relying on psychic energy. It erupted forward with immense strength and speed, directly colliding with the Aqua Ring imbued with the power of Primordial Sea. Its punches were unrivaled in speed, each strike surging like lightning as it continuously forced Kyogre back. At close range, it entered into a tremendous collision with one of Kyogre’s fins. Clearly, it had abandoned the idea of fighting two opponents at once and had decided to defeat one of them first.
On Primal Groudon’s side, Altaria was battered by the raging flames and had no choice but to wrap its entire body in the Flame of Life while fighting. Only by combining this with Fairy Aura did it gain the qualifications to contend with Primal Groudon. Mega Diancie itself could also have been a major source of assistance. Although it had not had much time to grow, it was still a Legendary Pokémon, and in terms of battle strength within Terrance’s team, even Gallade was somewhat inferior to it. However, because it had to protect Terrance together with Gallade, Diancie could not personally enter the battle. Mega Altaria, Mega Diancie, and Mega Gallade—the three great trump cards of Terrance—had all now appeared. Though each had a different role, together they displayed the formidable depth of Terrance’s strength.
“We’ll help you!”
Ice Beam, Dark Pulse, Shadow Ball, Dragon Rage, Hydro Pump, Flash Cannon—countless moves surged forward, each containing enormous energy capable of interfering with Primal Groudon. With Steven and the others joining the battle, the pressure on Terrance was instantly reduced.
“We… still have hope!!”
If there was any place in the world whose people were most concerned about the outcome of this battle, it was undoubtedly Sootopolis City. The location of the battle was far too close to Sootopolis City, close enough that even the aftermath could affect it. One could imagine what kind of catastrophic disaster Sootopolis City would suffer if the true power of the two Super-ancient Pokémon were fully unleashed. By then, most of the ordinary people in Sootopolis City would probably have no chance of escaping.
The situation took many twists and turns—from the Fairy Elite Four Terrance suppressing the Super-ancient Pokémon, to the Super-ancient Pokémon breaking free, and then to numerous Top Trainers joining forces to resist, launching the Moonfall Plan to no avail. The mindset of Sootopolis City’s citizens had gradually been worn down, reaching the brink of collapse. After the Moonfall Plan failed, most of Sootopolis City’s citizens had already prepared to abandon all hope and use any means necessary to escape. However, when Terrance led Mewtwo back into the battlefield, followed by the return of numerous Elite Fours, Champions, and Wallace, they involuntarily stopped what they were doing.
These Trainers… had not given up yet.
In Sootopolis City, a little girl saw the image of Terrance fighting and could not help bursting into tears before shouting with all her might:
“Come on!!! Elite Four Terrance!!”
“Come on!! Master Wallace!!!”
As the battle erupted once more, wave after wave of impassioned cheers rose throughout Sootopolis City. Countless people, their faces flushed red, screamed themselves hoarse.
Keep fighting, Trainers.
At Route 127, although Terrance and the others could not sense the change in the mindset of Sootopolis City’s citizens, nor did they know how people around the world viewed this battle, every one of them had no choice but to do everything in their power to stop Groudon and Kyogre.
Mewtwo suppressed Primal Kyogre and gradually expanded its advantage, while the Elite Fours successfully suppressed Primal Groudon. Although Terrance and the others were delighted by this, the pressure on them only continued to increase. As they were pushed toward a disadvantage, Primal Groudon and Primal Kyogre instinctively erupted with increasingly powerful strength, squeezing every last bit out of the time they could remain in their Primal forms.
Although the human side currently held an absolute advantage, with Groudon and Kyogre fighting desperately, casualties were probably unavoidable.
Yet even after realizing this, Elite Four Sidney, who had already been injured earlier, did not retreat. He continued gritting his teeth, calming himself as he issued commands.
According to the calculations of the Rotom Pokédex, the energy reactions of Primal Kyogre and Primal Groudon were steadily declining. This indicated that the injuries Terrance, Mewtwo, and the others had previously inflicted on Groudon and Kyogre were beginning to worsen. At the same time, under the tremendous pressure they now faced, Groudon and Kyogre had no choice but to begin drawing upon the power of their very origins.
“Vanilluxe!!”
Under the relentless pressure of countless Pokémon, Groudon endured attack after attack before suddenly erupting with torrents of magma that sprayed across the sky. The sheer might of it instantly reversed the situation. At this moment, Groudon’s stamina had fallen drastically, yet it seemed to have activated an ability similar to the “Blaze Ability” or the move “Reversal,” beginning a furious counterattack. Hidden beneath the magma, Groudon suddenly erupted with astonishing speed and strength, forcibly moving despite the obstruction of two waves of psychic powers. It successfully swung out an arm and seized the Vanilluxe nearest to it. Magma flowed across its palm, and with one crushing squeeze, the Vanilluxe melted and died on the spot.
The death of Elite Four Glacia’s Vanilluxe marked the beginning of the situation spiraling out of control. Under Mewtwo’s pressure, Primal Kyogre likewise erupted with tremendous power. The energy readings at Route 127 began soaring violently. At the Weather Institute’s monitoring center, numerous researchers wore grave expressions as they began worrying about the safety of the Elite Fours.
What came next… would be the most critical step.
“Damn it!” Terrance clenched his fists, his mood heavy. Although they had found a way to break the deadlock, the thought of the sacrifices involved left him unable to feel happy. As though sensing Terrance’s emotions, the pink Pokémon that had just returned after flying around Sootopolis City tilted its head. After blinking once, it began transforming into a flying dragon whose body was mostly green.
