As an Elite Four, Terrance could use the altar unconditionally. However, the League basically would not provide any assistance. For example, activating the power of the Star Altar was something the Elite Four had to handle personally, and the best method was to obtain the help of the local power—the Dojo Alliance.
Generally speaking, whenever an Elite Four applied to use the Star Altar, the major Dojos would offer at least some assistance. Of course, the Elite Four would also have to provide some gifts in return as compensation. In reality, however, very few Elite Fours had ever come to Seven Stars City. There were simply too many external methods of helping Pokémon increase their strength, while the Star Altar, to a certain extent, only provided substantial improvements to specific Pokémon connected to the stars. If a Pokémon had little connection to the stars, the power of stars could at most improve its physique somewhat.
With the resources available to an Elite Four, Terrance naturally had ways to make the major Dojos help him, but there was no need.
Compared with the troublesome Star Altar, Elite Fours had many more channels through which they could improve their strength. Terrance had looked into it before. Take Elite Four Phoebe, for example—she had once even used a special method to send her Pokémon into the “spirit world” for training.
Moreover, for powerful Pokémon, the influence of the power of stars was almost negligible. In other words, the Star Altar was practically useless to Top Trainer’s main Pokémon. Otherwise, this place would never have directly evolved into a reward for the Star Conference.
The Star Conference was one part of the Star Festival jointly organized by the major Dojos. It was a competition aimed at rookie Trainers in Seven Stars City. The conference’s winner could enter the Star Altar once and help their Pokémon receive the blessing of the stars. Since it was meant for rookie Trainers, the major Dojos did not need to activate the Star Altar at very high intensity. Over time, the Star Altar was opened mostly to rookie Trainers. Of course, this was also a marketing method used by the major Dojos. Selecting suitable Dojo apprentices through the Star Conference was one of their favorite things to do.
If Terrance wanted to use the Star Altar, given his status, they naturally could not cut corners. Allowing one Pokémon to communicate with the power of stars and allowing dozens of Pokémon to communicate with the power of stars would require completely different levels of star blessing. The power of stars might not be very useful to other Elite Fours, but it would certainly be useful to Terrance, the Fairy Elite Four. In particular, there were currently far too few methods of strengthening Fairy-type Pokémon. For this still-undeveloped type, Terrance could only continue searching for opportunities on his own, so the Star Altar naturally became one of his options.
“I can agree to that,” the elderly leader of the Rock Style Dojo said painfully.
Activating the Star Altar required the Pokémon move Cosmic Power, and only an extremely small number of Pokémon could learn Cosmic Power.
Every time the altar was activated, the Pokémon that used Cosmic Power would have their vitality severely drained and would need six months to a year of recuperation before recovering. Therefore, activating the Star Altar was indirectly equivalent to burning money.
Cosmic Power was a Psychic-type move. Under ordinary circumstances, it merely allowed a Pokémon to draw in power from the universe to temporarily strengthen its body. Yet the wisdom of the Super-ancient civilization surpassed the imagination of modern people. They had actually found a way to use it to permanently connect with the power of stars and benefit other Pokémon. It was truly miraculous.
“Then I’ll have to trouble you…” Terrance naturally understood that perfectly activating the Star Altar with only a single Pokémon capable of using Cosmic Power was impossible. That might be enough as a reward for a promising rookie Trainer from Seven Stars City, but for the level of power he needed, how could one Pokémon possibly suffice?
That said…
If only the Rock Style Dojo contributed, Terrance was still worried about the strength of the star blessing.
If he could obtain the assistance of every Dojo in Seven Stars City, then Terrance would be able to rest easy.
At that thought, even more ideas suddenly came to him.
“May I ask… what Pokémon capable of using Cosmic Power does the Rock Style Dojo raise?”
“Lunatone and Solrock.”
“How many?”
“Seven Lunatone and seven Solrock. The number raised by the other Dojos should not exceed that.”
By that calculation, the whole of Seven Stars City could provide more than a hundred Pokémon that had mastered Cosmic Power. However, if Terrance wanted the other Dojos to help him with all their strength, he would definitely have to pay a heavy price. Simply making a deal with the Rock Style Dojo alone certainly won’t be enough. The next moment, another idea flashed through Terrance’s mind, and he asked, “If my own Pokémon can use Cosmic Power, they should also be able to enter the Star Altar, correct?”
Upon hearing this, the elderly leader immediately smiled. “Of course. However, the Cosmic Power used by ordinary Pokémon is generally not even strong enough to activate the Star Altar. Every Dojo in Seven Stars City possesses a unique training method for Cosmic Power. Simply put, those Pokémon are all extremely proficient in the move. That is actually the key. “Then could the training method for Cosmic Power perhaps be exchanged?” Terrance asked again.
The conversation had gone from exchanging the sandstorm secret technique for the lunar stone, to the Star Altar, and then to exchanging the Cosmic Power training method. Terrance’s speed at changing the subject left the elderly leader somewhat dumbfounded, and for a moment, he had no idea how to answer.
Terrance was simply taking advantage of the opportunity. Since there was a chance to gain more benefits, no one would willingly accept a loss.
This question truly was difficult for the elderly leader of the Rock Style Dojo to answer. After all, in all the years Seven Stars City had existed, no one had ever specifically come to exchange for the training method of Cosmic Power, because even if they learned it, they would not possess the right to use the Star Altar.
As for an Elite Four… they did have the right to use the Star Altar. However, in the past ten years, only two Elite Fours had used it, and neither had ever returned. After all, with the resources and channels available to Elite Fours, very few of them would take much interest in the Star Altar. Terrance’s request truly was a first.
After being stunned for a long while, the elderly leader said, “There are no particular restrictions on that. However, training Cosmic Power is an extremely lengthy process and requires an enormous investment. Seven Stars City only raises these Pokémon specifically because of our local customs. Elite Four Terrance, if you are interested, it would still be much faster to directly ask the major Dojos for help. After all, perfectly activating the Star Altar is not something one or two Pokémon can accomplish. And gathering a hundred Pokémon that have mastered Cosmic Power, excuse me for speaking bluntly, but it is something only the combined efforts of all the major Dojos can achieve.”
Terrance fell silent and thought of Meteor Falls near Mt. Chimney. As his own backyard, Terrance knew Mt. Chimney area like the back of his hand. A large number of Lunatone inhabited one section of Meteor Falls. If he used Ninetales’s Ice Moon method together with Fairy Aura to train those Lunatone, would it be possible to raise a group of Pokémon proficient in Cosmic Power within a short period?
After all, Lunatone’s growth was closely tied to the phases of the moon.
Thinking about it this way, Cosmic Power, Lunar Stone, Lunatone, Star Altar, and the Fairy Origin seemed to share some unique connection.
Vaguely, Terrance felt as though he had grasped something crucial. He believed he absolutely could not miss this opportunity. It seemed that coming to Seven Stars City this time had truly been the right decision. The final step in perfecting the Fairy Army and Fairy Domain was likely connected to celestial bodies such as the moon and the sun.
