LPPD Chapter 53 Play Nice vs Biological Instinct

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

“Little Beauty, I’m going out in a little while. If we get attacked by a Pokémon, follow the plan we worked on,” Lu Li instructed the Feebas inside the Poké Ball.

The Poké Ball trembled lightly, as if saying, I understand.

After descending straight to the third floor through the emergency passage, Lu Li looked at the skybridge ahead and took a deep breath.

The weather today was bright and sunny, exactly the kind of day Flying-type Pokémon liked best.

If possible, Lu Li actually did not want to visit Indeedee today, but some things could not be delayed.

The earlier he asked Indeedee to help him find a Pokémon, the sooner he could obtain a new one.

Clutching the Poké Ball tightly in his hand, Lu Li hunched over and made his way toward the other side of the skybridge.

Lu Li was still very nervous at first, but as the passage to the hotel drew closer and closer, he gradually relaxed.

Just then, the sound of something tearing through the air came from behind him.

Perhaps it was because he had captured Feebas, but Lu Li had noticed that his perception seemed to have improved considerably.

Just like now. An ordinary person would never have been able to react so quickly, yet he had.

Almost entirely on instinct, Lu Li threw out the Poké Ball and shouted, “Full-power Tackle!”

With a flash of white light, Feebas leapt out of the Poké Ball. Almost the instant it appeared, it crashed head-on into the Spearow.

Spearow had never expected Lu Li to actually be a Trainer, much less that a Pokémon would suddenly rush right into its face with Tackle.

Spearow almost instinctively tried to use Peck to counter Feebas’s Tackle, but by the time it began gathering energy, Feebas’s Tackle had already smashed into its face.

Bang!

Spearow was sent flying backward and slammed heavily into the glass on the third floor of the mall. Its body then smashed through the glass and fell into one of the mall’s stores.

Feebas’s Tackle had not seriously injured Spearow. It had merely knocked it away and caused some minor injuries in the process.

Spearow got back to its feet and shook itself, scattering the shards of glass clinging to its body. Its eyes were filled with ferocity as it glared viciously at Lu Li.

This was the first time Lu Li had ever faced such a vicious gaze so directly.

Lu Li did not hesitate. As Feebas bounced back into the Poké Ball, the Poké Ball also rebounded neatly back into his hand.

Clutching the Poké Ball tightly, Lu Li turned and dashed into the emergency exit, pulling the passage door shut behind him.

But how could Spearow possibly let food that had already reached its beak escape?

It had originally thought it would only get to eat one of those nutrientless fake humans, but to its surprise, the other party had actually come with a Feebas as a bonus.

That Feebas alone was enough to give it a full meal.

Because of its strength, ever since arriving in this world, it had only managed to eat a single Caterpie. The rest of the time, it had been surviving on that nutrientless fake meat.

Spearow was truly starving now.

Its eyes bloodshot, Spearow charged after Lu Li without caring about anything else. At this point, it no longer cared that the emergency exit was narrow and extremely unfavorable for a Flying-type Pokémon.

After shutting the door, Lu Li shouted for Indeedee at the top of his lungs while running upstairs for his life.

Lu Li did not dare stop inside the emergency exit, because Spearow was not very large. A Spearow that had gone mad with hunger could absolutely chase him into the emergency exit.

And reality was exactly as he had expected.

Spearow really did chase after him.

Indeedee, who had originally been delivering meals, had sensed Lu Li the moment he entered the hotel. Soon after, it also sensed that a ravenously hungry Spearow had actually entered the hotel.

Indeedee was far from unintelligent and immediately guessed Lu Li’s situation. Realizing that Lu Li was being hunted down, it hurriedly abandoned its current work and used Teleport to appear in front of him.

The instant Indeedee appeared, it used Protect to shield both itself and Lu Li.

Spearow’s sharp beak gleamed with a cold light as it viciously pecked toward Lu Li.

Spearow’s claws finally reached Lu Li, but they were blocked by a transparent energy barrier.

After failing to land its attack, Spearow retreated several steps.

At that moment, Indeedee immediately hit Spearow with Play Nice.

In the games, Play Nice had the effect of lowering the opponent’s Attack.

But in the real world, Play Nice could also reduce the other party’s hostility, allowing Pokémon to actually play nice with one another.

After Play Nice landed on Spearow, however, it did not stop. It continued staring at Lu Li with bloodshot eyes.

There was no hostility in Spearow’s eyes. There was only ravenous desire.

Play Nice?

Don’t make Lord Sparrow laugh. Lord Sparrow was about to starve to death, so who cared about playing nice?

Indeedee sighed after seeing this.

This was not the first time “Play Nice” had failed since it arrived in this world. It had tried the move several times before, and most of the time, it had been ineffective.

That was because many Pokémon attacked fake humans not because they harbored hostility toward them, but simply because they were hunting. It was a law of nature, a biological instinct free of any hatred.

Indeedee had no other choice. Seeing that Spearow still wanted to attack Lu Li, it could only use Psychic to knock Spearow unconscious, then relocate it somewhere safe and remote.

After Spearow lost consciousness and disappeared, Lu Li wiped the sweat from his forehead and let out a heavy sigh of relief.

“Indeedee, thank you. Otherwise, I definitely would’ve been eaten by Spearow,” Lu Li said gratefully.

Indeedee waved its hand, indicating that there was no need to be polite.

Then Indeedee took out a pen and paper and drew a question mark.

“I’m here to ask you for a favor,” Lu Li pleaded sincerely.

Indeedee tilted its head and looked at Lu Li, waiting for him to continue.

Lu Li made his request somewhat awkwardly. “I want you to help me find a Pokémon nearby that my Feebas can defeat.”

Indeedee tilted its head and stared at Lu Li for a long time without reacting.

That was because Indeedee felt Lu Li was making things difficult for it.

This request was simply too demanding. A Pokémon that could be defeated by Feebas? Even after racking its brains, Indeedee could not think of any Pokémon weaker than Feebas.

Lu Li hurriedly added, “Preferably a Weedle or a Blipbug.”

“Indee~dee?”

Indeedee let out a puzzled cry, then picked up the pen and paper and started drawing again.

A moment later, Indeedee handed the drawing to Lu Li.

The picture was roughly asking what kind of Pokémon Blipbug was.

After looking at it, Lu Li realized that Indeedee most likely did not know what Blipbug was. In that case, the plan to search for a Blipbug was probably going to fall through.

Lu Li settled for the next best option. “If there’s no Blipbug, then Weedle will do. Preferably one that hasn’t been hatched for long.”

Indeedee nodded. This request was not particularly difficult. A recently hatched Weedle might be hard to find, but it was not impossible.

If possible, Lu Li actually wanted to ask whether there were any Pokémon Eggs nearby, but after considering Indeedee’s personality, he ultimately chose not to say anything.

After all, stealing Pokémon Eggs was the kind of thing that would ruin one’s image, and Lu Li still wanted to maintain Indeedee’s favorable impression of him.

Indeedee drew another picture and handed it to Lu Li. The meaning was roughly an invitation for Lu Li to stay and have a meal.

Lu Li naturally would not refuse. After all, relationships were built through exchanges like this. Today I owe you a favor, tomorrow you owe me one, and through that back-and-forth, the relationship naturally grows closer.
