“Senior Drake may indeed have a deep foundation, but facing a Fairy Type master, he’ll probably find himself struggling, right?”
As Terrance and Drake slowly stepped onto opposite sides of the battlefield, Sidney, seated among the Elite Four on the main podium, muttered to himself.
Originally, the Elite Four Challenge Competition was supposed to be a match between him and Terrance, so he had conducted a very detailed study of Terrance’s team.
It was clear that Fairy Types dominated Terrance’s lineup. If Terrance became an Elite Four, he would most likely be appointed as the Fairy Elite Four.
The discovery of the Fairy Type has been the greatest debate in recent years within the academic world regarding Pokémon types. This emerging type had yet to produce a truly representative master-level Trainer, and its foundation and available data were both quite limited.
Even so, based on existing records, some people already understood quite a few of Fairy Type’s type matchups.
“Fairy-type moves are effective against Dark and Dragon types. Fairy-type Pokémon strongly resist Dark-type moves and are nearly immune to Dragon-type moves. Compared to me, Elite Four Drake will actually have a much harder time dealing with Terrance.”
The relationship between Fairy and Dragon types was even more incompatible than that of Ice and Dragon. Even when facing an Ice-type master, Drake could handle it with ease. His long Trainer career had given him ample time to hone techniques against ice. But Fairy Types…
“Come on, let me see your fairy army.”
Drake looked at Terrance and spoke slowly. Then, he directly took out a Poké Ball and released it, a flying dragon appeared!
At the same time, Terrance also threw his Poké Ball and said, “Of course, but only if you can get past it first!”
Amid a sky filled with sandstorms, a Dragon-type Pokémon flew out. With a powerful flap of its wings, a sandstorm instantly swept across the battlefield. Opposing it, however, was a towering blaze of fire. Beneath the flames stood a canine Pokémon with fluffy flaxen fur, its body seemingly fused with wind and fire.
“Flygon vs. Arcanine…”
Chairman Nakai narrowed his eyes and said, “Flygon, like Tyranitar, is a darling of the desert. It can use sandstorms to hide its presence, and its vision isn’t affected by the storm. As for Arcanine…”
“This Arcanine has demonstrated a top-tier fusion of lightning and fire. Through the explosive power generated by the collision of lightning and fire, it can unleash astonishing destructive power, which is extremely troublesome to deal with. However, whether it’s lightning or fire, both have minimal effect on Flygon…” said Elite Four Glacia.
“However…”
Everyone could see that the type matchup was unfavorable for Terrance, yet none of them could make a clear judgment about the outcome of this battle.
“What the hell is with that size?” Sidney exclaimed. The three-meter-tall Arcanine not only had an enormous body, but also powerful, well-built limbs, making it look like it was brimming with explosive strength.
Its long tail, wreathed in flames, whipped through the air like a fire whip, a shocking sight.
“What a terrifying creature…” Phoebe was momentarily stunned.
“The most remarkable part is that, despite its size, the flames could still perfectly coordinate with its body. That’s no easy feat,” Steven added.
As the flames clashed against the sandstorm, Terrance showed no hesitation. With a commanding gesture, he called out, “Arcanine, Extreme Speed!”
Wrapped in blazing fire, the three-meter-tall Arcanine showed no clumsiness at all. As it dashed forward on all fours, even the battlefield, built to withstand Champion-level battles, was scorched with marks. In almost an instant, with a red gleam in its eyes, Arcanine leapt into the air and arrived directly in front of Flygon, its ferocity fully unleashed.
“Dragon Tail!”
The gigantic Arcanine leapt up from the battlefield, and the sheer visual impact alone shook many spectators. Just this display was enough to satisfy most of the audience.
Using the power of the sandstorm as propulsion, Flygon rapidly twisted its body, its massive Dragon Tail sweeping across as it collided with Arcanine, which had curled its body to use Flame Wheel.
This exchange was not yet at the level of deciding victory. In the brief clash, although tremendous power erupted, both sides managed to withdraw unharmed.
In truth, Arcanine was at a slight disadvantage. Its legs bore immense force just to keep it standing. Despite its massive size, the power of its Flame Wheel was noticeably weaker than Flygon’s Dragon Tail. This was already under the condition that Flygon, due to Arcanine’s Extreme Speed, had no time to fully react and had used the move hastily.
From this alone, it was clear that this Flygon had been trained for a very long time.
“The sandstorm is being disrupted.”
At the same time, first the flames rising from Arcanine, then the burst of flames from Flame Wheel, completely ignited the temperature of the battlefield, altering the air currents and increasing the difficulty for Flygon to control the sandstorm.
“Sunny Day!”
Seizing this opportunity, Terrance gave the command. Arcanine instantly condensed a scorching fireball, blasting away the clouds and covering the already blazing sun in the sky, making the battlefield even hotter.
Under the intense heat, every grain within the sandstorm was subjected to searing temperatures. At this moment, the blazing sun completely suppressed the sandstorm, causing Flygon’s expression to shift uncomfortably.
“Sandstorms and harsh sunlight can indeed coexist in certain environments, but Master’s Flygon doesn’t like sunny weather…” In the audience, Drake’s eldest disciple, Fitzwilliam, was slightly taken aback. Having spent years at sea, they were far more accustomed to rain.
Basking under the blazing sun, Arcanine’s ferocity seemed to be further stimulated. It exhaled hot breath as currents of electricity and serpentine flames intertwined and spread across its body. The faint numbing sensation did not hinder its movement; instead, it allowed Arcanine to remain calm while fully unleashing its wild nature.
Under the effects of Thrash and Outrage, it would be impossible for Arcanine to avoid falling into confusion, even with its willpower.
However, it could use electrical stimulation to keep its mind clear, maintaining composure while releasing that extreme wild nature.
Lightning and flames surged, causing Elite Four Drake to show a thoughtful expression. By the time he realized something was wrong, Arcanine had already turned into a flash and charged forward.
The outer layers of lightning and fire gradually fused together, forming a body with a dragon’s head. Within that dragon-shaped form was even a trace of dragon’s might, drawing exclamations from many.
“Lightning and fire are just a feint, the main attack is still the Outrage strike!”
“When facing a Dragon-type Pokémon, Arcanine still has its own method. That is, using Dragon-type moves!”
“With the explosive power brought by lightning and fire, the Extreme Speed of Arcanine, hailed as the Dragon of Lightning Speed, becomes even more terrifying, but…”
Such a fusion of multiple types made the move appear chaotic. Though Terrance was a Contest Master, that didn’t mean other Trainers couldn’t see the flaw:
“No matter how well it’s coordinated, its true nature will be exposed after the attack. The energy disorder will cause heavy damage to Arcanine itself—high effort for little gain. Such a reckless attack is truly a poor choice in battle.”
