“Tyranitar, Rock Tomb!!”
The sandstorm swept through the sky, obscuring Spinda and Norman’s vision. Immediately after, several pillars of rock burst up from the ground, trapping Spinda within.
The trapped Spinda was instantly met with Tyranitar’s follow-up attack. A massive shadow loomed overhead as Tyranitar rapidly switched between light and heavy modes, descending at incredible speed. With “Superpower” clenched in its fist, it smashed down toward the area of the Rock Tomb!
Superpower is a move that attacks the target with great power, but after using it, the user’s stats declines, with both strength and defense being reduced.
Using such a violent move right away against a Normal-type Spinda clearly showed that Terrance had no intention of dragging this battle out.
“Facade!”
Facing Tyranitar’s tyrannical attack, Norman calmly issued a command. The rock pillars suddenly exploded apart, and Spinda raised its arms, directly withstanding Tyranitar’s Superpower!
“Impossible! My Pokémon have personally experienced that Tyranitar’s strength. How could it be blocked so easily!” At that moment, a seasoned Trainer who had battled Terrance before exclaimed in disbelief. Spinda? That fragile Pokémon competing with Tyranitar in strength? Maybe if it were Slaking, it would make sense.
“Stop talking and watch carefully.” As the uninformed Trainer cried out, a more experienced onlooker immediately spoke up in dissatisfaction.
At this moment, the faint red spots on Spinda’s body had turned a purplish-red—clearly a sign of poisoning.
The move Facade—when the user is afflicted with Poison, Paralysis, or Burn state, its power doubles!
By using Toxic on itself to enter a poisoned state and unleash its potential, combined ingeniously with Facade, this Normal-type move of Spinda displayed an unbelievable level of destructive power.
Moreover, very few people knew that the Poison state Spinda was in did not bring negative effects. Instead, due to the special nature of this poison, it actually stimulated even greater power within Spinda.
A Spinda whose strength rivaled Tyranitar left many people dumbfounded. Of course, the intricacies behind this were likely understood by only a handful.
“Grab it!”
As Superpower and Facade collided, the sandstorm rapidly gathered around Spinda, as if trying to envelop it. But unexpectedly, Spinda moved even faster, borrowing force to counter force. With its swaying motion, it redirected the impact, causing Tyranitar to suddenly lose its center of gravity. At that moment, Spinda slightly turned its body, extended its leg, and used “Low Kick,” causing Tyranitar’s heavy body to crash violently onto the ground, taking heavy damage.
When Tyranitar could no longer focus on controlling the sandstorm, Spinda easily broke free and began swaying in a bizarre manner.
“Tyranitar, don’t look at it. Stomp and trigger Earthquake!” Terrance shouted.
Norman’s Spinda has the Own Tempo Ability, which prevents it from becoming confused. Revolving around this Ability, the way this Spinda has been trained is extremely troublesome.
The perfect fusion of Teeter Dance, Hypnosis, and Thrash not only allowed this Spinda to master a unique fighting style akin to “drunken boxing,” with astonishing attack efficiency, but more importantly, Teeter Dance combined with Spinda’s peculiar patterns could cause opponents who look at it to fall into confusion. The integration of Hypnosis further enhanced the hypnotic effect of Teeter Dance, making it difficult for most Pokémon to confront it head-on.
Following Terrance’s shout, Tyranitar stomped heavily, instantly altering the terrain and leaving Spinda with no space to sway. However, terrain changes alone could not stop it for long. This Spinda’s coordination skills rivaled that of Beautifly, and it was highly skilled in techniques like borrowing and dispersing force. The tremors of Earthquake failed to deal significant damage. Soon, it swayed its way in front of Tyranitar and assumed an attacking stance.
Bang!!!
Spinda threw a punch, and the sandstorm shield condensed in front of Tyranitar shattered instantly. Stepping with a peculiar rhythm, Spinda launched a ferocious chain of attacks. This was Thrash, a move that normally causes the user to fall into confusion had not affected Spinda in the slightest. Combined with Teeter Dance, the attack looked like chaotic, random strikes, yet every blow was aimed precisely at Tyranitar’s vital points.
“Go all out!”
Under Spinda’s fierce assault, Tyranitar went berserk. With Terrance’s approval, it activated Outrage, unleashing its wild nature. Sand blades formed in its hands and slashed forward in an instant.
At this moment, Tyranitar had closed its eyes, relying on the flow of air currents and the sandstorm to sense the opponent’s position—this was to avoid being affected by Teeter Dance. However, Teeter Dance, fused with the Psychic-type Hypnosis effect, displayed an extremely troublesome ability. Even with its eyes closed, Tyranitar’s body still became unstable. The sand blade missed its mark, cutting beside Spinda. Only a few scattered grains of sand struck it, dealing minimal damage. Seizing this opportunity, Spinda had already made contact with Tyranitar. At this moment, it clenched its fist tightly, turning into a Drain Punch before beginning to absorb Tyranitar’s stamina.
This scene made many Trainers realize that Tyranitar had already lost. But at the final moment, Tyranitar suddenly opened its bloodshot eyes, enduring the pain as it fired the Hyper Beam it had been charging in advance. This time, with Spinda right beside it and nowhere to dodge, the intense explosion instantly engulfed the entire field.
With a “buzz,” even the psychic shield surrounding the arena trembled.
“Tyranitar is unable to battle. Contestant Terrance, please send out the next Pokémon.”
Terrance reluctantly recalled Tyranitar. After giving it some comfort, he took out another Poké Ball.
That Spinda was clearly trained to a higher level than Tyranitar. If not for the boost in battle instinct brought by Outrage, Tyranitar likely wouldn’t have even been able to fire that final Hyper Beam before going down.
Although the Drain Punch ultimately succeeded in bringing Tyranitar down, Tyranitar’s last Hyper Beam left Spinda heavily injured as well.
However, the cost of landing that hit was a bit too high. In that situation, Tyranitar had very little chance of turning the tide. Terrance’s decision to use Tyranitar’s body as bait to fire a Hyper Beam was a desperate move. Unfortunately, it still failed to result in mutual defeat. Spinda managed to endure.
“Incredible.” Even Terrance couldn’t help but feel admiration. Like Beautifly, Spinda was an ordinary Pokémon. Compared to Tyranitar, they were far weaker. But it wasn’t only him who could train a Beautifly to Elite Four level. There were also exceptional individuals capable of training other weak Pokémon into terrifying forces.
“Will that Spinda’s Teeter Dance affect it? Come out, Mismagius!” Terrance solemnly threw Mismagius’s Poké Ball.
