The Pokémon world had a moon above it. The light reflected by the moon shone upon the Pokémon world, giving rise to Fairy energy. When dense Fairy energy remained in contact with meteorite-like minerals for a long time, it produced an evolutionary stone known as a Moon Stone. This stone could evolve Pokémon such as Clefairy and Jigglypuff.
In the Fallarbor Gym’s Laboratory, everyone first conducted a comparative study between the Moon Stone and the lunar stone, and discovered an interesting phenomenon.
The Moon Stone would independently absorb the energy fluctuations released by the lunar stone, then slowly increase its concentration, thereby improving its quality.
“You have to understand that stones like Water Stones and Fire Stones can only absorb energy during the process of their formation. Once they have formed, even if the corresponding energy around them becomes a hundred times denser, their quality can never be altered afterward.”
“That isn’t the issue. The key is that the energy contained within the Moon Stone and the lunar stone is neither the same kind nor Fairy energy. During this process, the energy from the lunar stone clearly undergoes a conversion. That conversion process is what we should be studying.”
“I’ve already extracted the conversion data of these energies and included the data on Fairy energy as well. Everyone, please take a look…”
On this day, the Fallarbor Gym’s Laboratory was still bustling with activity. Terrance wanted to join them, but all he could do was operate the Rotom Pokédex, which was not particularly meaningful. However, after being reminded by the Rotom Pokédex, Terrance decided to make a trip outside.
To capture Lunatone.
Terrance had traded for the secret technique of the move Cosmic Power precisely so he could raise a group of Lunatone to help him explore the Star Altar.
Besides that, the subsequent research would also require Lunatone. In the original plan he had made with the Rotom Pokédex, researching Fairy energy would not only require comparative studies between Moon Stones and the lunar stone, but also the assistance of a Pokémon like Lunatone.
“Besides that, I might as well capture a Solrock too,” Terrance said.
The moon itself did not emit light; it merely reflected sunlight. From that perspective, the source of Fairy energy was instead the sun. Lunatone was connected to the moon, while Solrock was connected to the sun. For the research to come, Terrance planned to approach it from both directions.
He would study Fairy energy through both the sun and the moon.
“Xerneas and the Alolan guardian deities’ understanding of Fairy energy only extends to its composition. They believe the essence of Fairy energy lies in the components that make it up. In truth, even their use of Fairy energy only goes as far as separating Fairy energy…” Terrance thought. “Perhaps even these Legendary Pokémon may not understand how Fairy energy is converted from solar energy. If I can figure that out, aside from making an academic breakthrough, could it also improve my strength?”
Terrance shook his head. That truly was uncertain. Although the result was unknown, the research still had to continue. The origins and essence of most other types had likewise been uncovered by past scholars through countless explorations and experiments. Now, for the newly emerged Fairy type, it was Terrance’s turn to act as the pioneer and carry out the research.
Even if he himself gained nothing from it, accumulating some experience to leave behind for future generations would still be worthwhile. Perhaps someone with even greater talent would one day be able to take another step forward on this foundation. Thinking of it that way, Terrance no longer cared much about what he might personally gain. Taking several Pokémon with him, he headed directly toward Mt. Chimney.
…
…
“Frogadier, condense the water current faster! Keep your reaction speed in sync with the perception of Mind Reader!”
“And learn to predict and guide Beautifly’s movements. Otherwise, you’ll never be able to touch it!”
While crossing Mt. Chimney on the way to Meteor Falls, Terrance took the opportunity to check on the growth of the Power Herbs. With Beautifly, Arcanine, Castform, and dozens of Grass-type Pokémon tending to them here, the Power Herbs were accumulating age extremely quickly, far beyond what ordinary growth conditions could achieve.
At the same time, to inspect the results of Beautifly, Arcanine, and Castform’s training, Terrance had Frogadier and Mawile engage them in simulated battles.
Up ahead, electromagnetic power surged around Mawile as it converted magnetic field fluctuations into pressure that disrupted Beautifly’s reactions. At the same time, it swung its fists and jaws as it tangled with Beautifly. Beautifly, meanwhile, was enveloped in a faint golden cyclone. It used the unique golden energy gifted to it by Mew and the Tree of Beginning in place of its totem aura, converting sunlight from the sky into stamina and continuously repairing the bodily damage caused by moving and attacking with high-pressure air currents. During this time, Beautifly used powerful blades of wind pressure for both offense and defense, leaving several wounds carved by wind blades across Mawile’s body.
This was Mawile’s first time battling Beautifly. Within the Wind Domain, Beautifly pushed abilities such as “sensing”, “prediction”, and “reaction” to their limits, frustrating Mawile to no end. However, its top-tier combat instincts soon allowed it to calm down, restrain its recklessness as much as possible, and begin analyzing Beautifly’s flight patterns.
One minute later.
“Cha!!” A red gleam swept through Mawile’s eyes as it finally struck Beautifly’s body for the first time. Its fist scattered the surrounding wind pressure and knocked Beautifly away. At the same time, Frogadier seized the opportunity and finally landed its first hit on Beautifly as well.
This simulated battle had Mawile and Frogadier jointly confronting Beautifly.
From the rear, Frogadier constantly moved and changed positions while gathering Water Pulse between its hands. Controlling the vibrational force within the waves, it compressed the attack to its limit before flinging it toward Beautifly. Unfortunately, even under pressure from two opponents, Beautifly still handled the battle with ease and held out for three minutes before being struck for the first time.
“Clap!” Terrance brought the battle to an end with a sharp clap of his hands.
“Not bad. You’ve all improved,” Terrance said. Beautifly could now use the golden energy perfectly and had adapted to the aftereffects of losing its totem aura. Although Mawile had entered the top tier relatively late, the adaptability granted by its outstanding battle awareness was something Terrance’s other Pokémon lacked. Frogadier had missed a great deal of training while in Togepi Paradise, but it had not fallen behind in its Water Pulse practice. It had probably trained it while watering the flowers and grass.
The reason Terrance had Frogadier train Water Pulse was because the move worked by vibrating water. If it adapted to vibrations now, then once it evolved, mastering Water Shuriken would be extremely easy. At that point, combined with Greninja’s special mucus, Water Shuriken containing both high pressure and intense vibrations would theoretically be able to maximize its destructive power.
Terrance had not reached this conclusion from any other source. He had been inspired by Ash’s Greninja from the parallel timeline four years in the future. That golden Water Shuriken, compressed to the absolute limit, had possessed truly remarkable power, though it had unfortunately been difficult to control. What Terrance was having Frogadier do now was foundational training. When the time came, Water Shuriken would undoubtedly become the finest weapon for its “ninja identity.”
“Its accuracy is just a little poor,” Terrance thought. But then again, its target was Beautifly.
