“Master Terrance, so you were here…”
Just as Terrance was enthusiastically explaining his understanding of Fairy-type to Lisia, a voice suddenly interrupted them.
The woman, dressed in a martial arts uniform with her hair tied in a single ponytail, raised a hand in greeting and smiled.
The newcomer was Jillian, the current leader of the Wind Fist Style Dojo and a Trainer Terrance had met at the Super-ancient Pyramid.
Jillian had once invited Terrance to visit the Wind Fist Style Dojo. When he came to Seven Stars City this time, Terrance immediately thought of her. Having a local guide would make everything much easier.
“And this is…?” Upon noticing someone beside Terrance, Jillian looked curiously at Lisia.
“Hello, I’m Lisia. I’m currently training to become a Contest Master.”
“Hello, I’m Jillian, the leader of the Wind Fist Style Dojo.” After hearing the word “Contest,” Jillian more or less guessed the relationship between Lisia and Terrance. After greeting her with a smile, she extended an invitation. “In that case, would you like to visit the Wind Fist Style Dojo next?”
Well…
Terrance naturally intended to go, since that was precisely why he had come to find Jillian. He also had something he wanted to ask of her. Lisia hesitated after hearing the invitation and said, “Is it really all right for me to come too?”
“Of course,” Jillian said with a smile.
“All right, then sorry for bothering you.”
With Jillian’s arrival, Terrance ended his discussion with Lisia. After saying so much, he had essentially explained the general direction of Fairy-type research to her. With such a clear research path, as well as a powerful ace like Mega Altaria, Terrance believed Lisia would soon become the next representative figure of the Fairy-type.
The Wind Fist Style Dojo was one of the many dojos in Seven Stars City. Although it could not be considered a top-tier dojo, it was not among the weakest either, placing somewhere in the middle.
As a city where dojo and Trainer traditions were passed down, Seven Stars City had something of an everyone-is-a-Trainer atmosphere. In this respect, no other city could compare. Pull any random passerby off the street, and they might very well be a Trainer. Even if they were not, they were certainly a tourist who loved Pokémon battles and had come to visit Seven Stars City.
If there were any city in the world that could truly be described as having “Trainers everywhere,” it could only be Seven Stars City.
There were multiple Trainer’s School here for young children, along with all sorts of specialized training institutions. However, if they were determined to become powerful Trainers, most residents of Seven Stars City would send their descendants to study at a dojo.
Every dojo passed down powerful secret techniques that went beyond basic knowledge. Once someone mastered them, becoming an elite among Trainers was only a matter of time. However, compared to Trainer’s School, the fees charged by dojos were also extremely expensive, even surpassing the tuition charged by some Gyms for accepting disciples.
“Hah!”
“Hah!! Hey!!”
As soon as Terrance and the others entered the Wind Fist Style Dojo, they saw the dojo apprentices exercising alongside their Pokémon in the central area. These dojo apprentices were all quite young, almost all just over ten years old. The oldest was probably no more than thirteen, while the youngest was not even ten.
As for their numbers, there were far fewer than Terrance had imagined, only a little over a dozen.
Inside the dojo, the elderly man responsible for instructing the apprentices saw Jillian return with guests. He waved his hand and dismissed the apprentices who were exercising before walking over.
“Uncle Lucky, please brew some tea. We have guests.”
Jillian said to the elderly man who taught the apprentices.
“Welcome, welcome.” The old man looked at Terrance and Lisia with a beaming smile. His frail frame hardly seemed to belong to a teacher of a fighting dojo. Under Jillian’s lead, Terrance and Lisia were soon brought to a tea room.
At the same time, the dojo apprentices who had been dismissed hid off to the side, curiously watching Terrance and Lisia follow Jillian into the dojo.
“Those two seem to have come with Leader Jillian. Are they big shots from another dojo?”
“Not sure… but both of them look younger than Leader Jillian. That girl looks about the same age as me.”
“They’re both wearing sunglasses, so I can’t tell whether they’re from another dojo or not.” Among the dozen or so people, a boy shook his head.
…
…
“Those apprentices all have great spirit. It seems their physiques have been trained well.” In the tea room, after Terrance sat down, he said with a smile.
“It’s all just basics.” Hearing this, Jillian’s cheeks instantly flushed a little. She remembered how, at the Super-ancient Pyramid, she had failed to keep up with Terrance because she had run out of stamina… The philosophy of Wind Fist Style was the unity of body, mind, and spirit. This requirement applied not only to Pokémon, but also to Trainers. Because of this, the style had developed a unique form of martial arts. However, this martial art would cause one’s physique to change greatly. As a girl, Jillian’s love of beauty had ultimately won out, so she had not trained in it seriously. But these dojo apprentices had joined precisely to learn these secret techniques, so naturally they did not have Jillian’s little concerns. In reality, though, Wind Fist Style’s apprentices were almost all boys, with no girls among them.
“Do you also have some research into martial arts, guest?” Uncle Lucky, who had returned after brewing the tea, asked curiously.
“I suppose I have some experience.” Terrance smiled. Setting aside his accumulated experience and Elite Four Bruno’s martial arts, just the Aura martial art that Rotom Pokédex had created for him after he became an Elite Four—by fusing the principles of many martial arts styles with advanced Aura knowledge and tailoring it to his physical template—was already a top-class martial art rarely seen in the world. If Terrance could practice it steadily over many years, it was not impossible for him to reach a physical level like Bruno.
And the Aura martial art, together with psychic power, was the key that allowed him to use the Z-Ring strengthened by Alola’s guardian deities. Naturally, Terrance would not slack off.
“Uncle Lucky!” Jillian quickly spoke up, afraid that he might suddenly make some unreasonable request.
“I forgot to introduce him to you. This is Master Terrance, an Elite Four of the Hoenn region,” Jillian introduced. “And this is Coordinator Lisia.”
Elite Four?
Hearing this, the hand of the old man called Uncle Lucky trembled slightly as he served the tea, and he was rather surprised. No matter what, he had never expected that Jillian, this unreliable new leader of the dojo, would actually be able to invite an Elite Four here as a guest. It was truly unbelievable.
“So that’s how it is. Your Excellency must be the powerful Trainer Leader Jillian mentioned, the one who took quite good care of her at the Super-ancient Pyramid.” Uncle Lucky laughed heartily and put down the tea.
Terrance responded awkwardly.
To keep Uncle Lucky from interrupting randomly again, Jillian hurriedly changed the subject and quickly asked, “Master Terrance, did you come to Seven Stars City this time for the Star Festival?”
“That is only one reason. There is another reason. There is something inside the Rock Style Dojo that is very important to me…”
“You’re going to challenge their dojo?” Jillian’s and Lisia’s eyes lit up.
“How could that be?” Terrance waved his hands repeatedly. “I was wondering what the relationship between the Wind Fist Style Dojo and the Rock Style Dojo is like, and whether it might be possible for you to act as an intermediary?”
