Franky had ultimately judged her somewhat by appearances. After all, no matter how he looked at Ginny, she did not resemble someone skilled at handling such a large weapon, until he saw her effortlessly lift it and try aiming it.
“This gun looks pretty good. It should solve quite a few of the problems caused by insufficient bullet power.”
When the damage was lacking, make up for it with caliber. In the New World, where Armament Haki was becoming increasingly widespread, artillery of this caliber did not pose much of a threat.
People using Haki to withstand cannon fire or slicing cannonballs apart with swords were everywhere.
But outside the New World, large-caliber weapons were effective against most enemies. Even someone as powerful as Whitebeard had cannonball wounds on his body when he died.
Although those few hits could not be considered fatal injuries, they had still contributed somewhat to wearing down his stamina.
A vampire’s special vision allowed Ginny to see farther, and the enhanced range happened to satisfy her needs.
“Hey, boy over there! Where can I find a suitable target? I want to test-fire it!”
“Give me a moment…”
This time, Franky did not send out a target ship. Business in Water 7 was currently poor, and derelict ships suitable for target practice were not lying around everywhere, so he merely set up a simple target by the shore.
“The safety is here, and the sight is—”
“My marksmanship is excellent. You don’t need to explain it in such detail.”
“This is a cannon! A cannon, not a gun!”
“They’re the same thing. I’m planning to use it as a gun anyway.”
Franky still wanted to argue over what exactly he had built, looking ready to debate the logic that an extra-large cup isn’t a large cup and that there are only medium cups and no small ones, but Iceburg stopped him. [TN: This phrase is a humorous, sarcastic critique of marketing manipulation and product sizing tricks used by modern brands. It translates to:”There is a huge debate that an ‘Extra-Large’ is not a ‘Large,’ and that there is only a ‘Medium’ but no ‘Small.'”It directly mocks how companies rename standard sizes to make consumers feel like they are getting a better deal or to justify higher prices.]
It was certainly not ideal for something he had built to be misused, but there was no need to dig too deeply into the exact definition.
Boom!
The familiar rumble rang out once more. Accompanied by the crisp sound of shell casings dropping to the ground, Ginny began firing continuously, only stopping after emptying the ten-round magazine.
“Whew, now that has some kick. But the magazine is a little small. Blue-haired boy, do you have one with a larger capacity?”
“That’s easy enough, but you’re quite an extraordinary woman yourself…”
Increasing the magazine capacity was the easiest problem to solve. He did not even need to manufacture one separately; modifying and combining two magazines would do the job.
“But if you use this thing as a gun…aren’t you afraid of becoming a target on the battlefield? Something this large won’t be easy to move around…”
“You don’t need to worry about that. I’ll be taking it with me. Add the bill to the payment for Mr. Tom.”
Ginny raised a hand and pushed toward the side. A crack immediately appeared in the air, and a large door opened directly in midair. Ginny then carried that Schrödinger’s cannon-gun through the Air Door.
As an intelligence agent, Ginny had gained a certain degree of combat ability after being transformed into a vampire, but she was still somewhat inferior to frontline fighters.
Although many people who had made names for themselves were Devil Fruit users, that was because Devil Fruit users found it easier to stand out. Devil Fruits remained extremely rare treasures on the seas.
Kaido was so obsessed with Zoan-type fruits, yet after several decades, he had found only one Mythical Zoan, the Okuchi no Makami.
Although Nereus possessed several Devil Fruits, many Fish-Men and Merfolk inherently rejected Devil Fruits, so the fruits inevitably had to be distributed among subordinates of other races.
After gathering dust in the warehouse for some time, the Door-Door Fruit was eventually given to Ginny.
Although it was not very powerful in direct combat, it was excellent for intelligence theft. By relying on the door world, Ginny could move into places ordinary people had difficulty approaching and eavesdrop on information.
As long as she did not walk directly in front of someone, very few people could sense her presence in another dimension, even with Observation Haki active.
Thanks to this ability, when she arrived in the area, Ginny even went near Enies Lobby and used an eavesdropping Den Den Mushi to intercept some intelligence.
As one of the World Government’s three major institutions, Ginny had originally believed she would be able to obtain some valuable information there.
But the reality was completely different from what she had imagined. On an island bearing the name of judicial, she could not find any information related to lawful activity whatsoever.
Once someone was sent there, regardless of the reason, the only possible verdict was guilty.
The sole piece of valuable information was that two giants had been deceived into working as gatekeepers at Enies Lobby.
The reason they had been deceived was even related to the other two giants they had encountered back on Little Garden.
However, the door world within the air was vast. Anything left inside would simply remain where it was. Even if an Air Door was opened somewhere else, objects left within would not change position.
The Air Doors often allowed her to take shortcuts.
Occasionally, she would also encounter strange things. When she had no particular objective, Ginny generally used it only for travel or when she was unfamiliar with the route.
Since she could see the destination directly with no obstacles in between, even someone born with no sense of direction could reach the target location without trouble.
When Ginny found Kuma again, Tom was introducing the new ship to them.
“Cabins and rooms suitable for large people to move around in, a private lounge, boosters capable of absorbing electrical energy to provide additional propulsion…”
As long as the requirements were not too outrageous, Tom could satisfy nearly all of them, and electrical energy was no problem at all.
Although many islands on these seas lacked the means to generate electricity, electrical energy was still one of the few proper energy sources.
At least, compared to power sources like carbonated drinks, that is certainly the case.
After Ginny, Luna, and the others replaced their ship in Water 7 and obtained their new weapons, the group did not linger there for long and continued toward Fishman Island.
Before long, they entered a stretch of sea filled with dense fog.
The gloomy mist gave the surroundings an eerie atmosphere. From time to time, damaged ships drifted past, while fragments of vessels occasionally bobbed along with the waves.
At this moment, Ginny took over as lookout. The dim, heavy fog obstructed an ordinary person’s vision, but it did not affect Ginny very much.
Upon closer inspection, her eyes were now filled with a crimson, bloodlike glow, and her pupils had undergone a subtle change. For a vampire, this environment was practically ideal.
“Up ahead…”
“Ginny, in that direction ahead…isn’t there something resembling an island?”
“You can see it, Kuma? Has the perception of your Observation Haki already improved that much? There really is something like an island…or perhaps a ship up ahead.”
“No, it isn’t Observation Haki… I just sensed something very familiar. That place…seems to have been marked by me before.”
The Paw-Paw Fruit’s teleportation ability was not without limitations. Kuma could directly send someone anywhere within his line of sight.
To send them somewhere else, it had to be a place Kuma had previously visited. He was certain he had never come here before, yet from within the dense fog came a familiar sensation that stirred some rather unpleasant memories in him…
