“What, what exactly is going on? I was clearly just… This is definitely my laboratory?! But… what happened?!” Dr. Gero couldn’t understand it. With a face full of shock, he looked around at the surroundings. The familiar equipment, the familiar everything; this absolutely wasn’t a dream.
It had completely exceeded the scope of his understanding, leaving him feeling confused and disoriented.
“Could it be that I was too absorbed in my thoughts and didn’t even realize I had already returned? Or did fighting Piccolo damage my neural transmission function, causing memory loss?” Dr. Gero muttered to himself.
For him to think this way at a time like this, it was no wonder he was called a mad scientist. He truly was insane.
Most unbelievable of all was that Dr. Gero quickly accepted the current situation.
He didn’t continue dwelling on it, and instead thought about how he needed to quickly activate Android 17 and 18 from their hibernation chambers.
Otherwise, once those people tracked him down, he would die.
Dr. Gero swiftly walked over to the control console and picked up the controller, but just as he was about to open the hibernation chambers, he hesitated for a moment.
Should he really awaken them?
Every single time he awakened 17 and 18, Dr. Gero would ask himself this question.
The power of 17 and 18 was simply too great—so great that they could disobey his orders.
The previous two times, it was only because he possessed the remote controller that he had been able to forcibly shut them down.
After pondering for a moment, Dr. Gero forcefully shook his head, throwing all the chaotic thoughts from his mind aside.
Now was absolutely not the time to think about such things.
Gritting his teeth, Dr. Gero pressed the activation button.
The hibernation chamber belonging to Android 17 opened first, and 17 suddenly opened his eyes, waking up.
As his consciousness returned, he calmly stepped out of the hibernation chamber, and the first thing he saw was Dr. Gero.
Without revealing anything on his face, he naturally noticed the controller in Dr. Gero’s right hand.
He and No. 18 had intended to rebel and nearly killed Dr. Gero several times, but the old man always kept a card up his sleeve. Using the controller, he could easily shut down his and 18’s ability to move.
Last time, they had almost managed to break free from his control. Only now, after so long, had they finally seen the light of day again.
Even though he found Dr. Gero extremely unpleasant to look at, he could only endure it for now.
He didn’t want to fail this opportunity again and be locked back into that pitch-black hibernation chamber.
“Doctor.” Hiding his emotions, 17 respectfully greeted Dr. Gero.
The moment those words came out, Dr. Gero was incomparably astonished, followed immediately by a look of intense joy appearing on his face.
“Y-you… what did you just call me? 17!” Dr. Gero asked, repeatedly confirming in disbelief.
“Doctor, what happened to you?” 17 asked in a concerned tone.
Hearing that, how could Dr. Gero possibly remain calm? Excitedly, he said, “Good, excellent! It seems the malfunction repaired itself automatically? Not only have you become obedient, but you even know how to care about me now.”
Seeing 17 act completely respectful toward him, Dr. Gero didn’t harbor the slightest suspicion.
His heart was overflowing with joy, convinced that he had successfully brought 17 under his control!
With 17’s assistance, those people hunting him down would be nothing more than chickens waiting to be slaughtered.
Dr. Gero had even already thought about how he would use 17’s power to kill everyone, complete his revenge, and finally rule the Earth.
“So you’ve also modified yourself into an Android, I see. But this appears to be the old-style energy absorption type. Why didn’t you modify yourself with the latest infinte energy reactor like us? Also, your injuries seem rather severe. What kind of enemy could wound you to this extent?” 17 launched a soul-level line of questioning, diverting Dr. Gero’s attention.
On the surface, he appeared utterly respectful toward Dr. Gero, but in reality, he was simply searching for the right opportunity to seize the controller from Dr. Gero’s hand.
“You’ve only just awakened. There’s no time to explain so many things right now. Once those people arrive, you’ll naturally understand,” Dr. Gero said, unwilling to explain further.
Piccolo cutting off one of his arms was a humiliation. He could not speak of it.
As for why he hadn’t modified himself into an Android with a infinte energy reactor, it was because his body was too weak to withstand the intensity of such modifications, leaving him no choice but to resort to this alternative method.
Otherwise, why would he abandon the latest and stronger technology and use the old outdated first-generation technology instead?
“Yes, Doctor.” 17 no longer asked questions. With his intelligence, he had already roughly guessed that Dr. Gero had probably gone to seek revenge, only to fail and even have his enemies chase him all the way back here.
And now, he had to act even more obediently. That way, his older sister, 18, would also be released.
When that time came, he and his sister could work together to plot against and kill Dr. Gero.
Because of his superb acting skills, after issuing a few simple orders, Dr. Gero completely believed that 17 would no longer disobey him. Thus, he also released Android 18 from her hibernation chamber.
Once released, 18’s consciousness returned. She stepped out of the hibernation chamber, and the moment she saw 17, the tacit understanding between the siblings allowed them to understand each other with just a single glance.
“Doctor.” 18 forcefully suppressed the hatred she felt toward Dr. Gero and spoke with a respectful expression.
Seeing this, Dr. Gero was overjoyed.
“Excellent! It seems both of you got repaired automatically. My original design truly was correct! 17, 18, now is the time for you to devote yourselves to me!” Dr. Gero laughed uncontrollably, as if he had lost his mind.
