APJ Chapter 500 Pure “Free Giving” Behavior

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

In the original timeline, the time when Jack acquired his devil fruit is unknown, but it can be confirmed that it was after reaching adulthood. According to others’ recollections, Jack discovered the Poneglyph at the bottom of the sea in the Wano Country’s inland sea when he was an adult.

Now, due to a series of butterfly effects, this Devil Fruit ended up in Doflamingo’s hands.

As for the ordinary Elephant-Elephant Fruit, originally it was supposed to be traded to the World Government, but now, due to Doflamingo’s change of plans, this Elephant-Elephant Fruit also has a new arrangement.

In Underworld’s business deals, backstabbing is a common occurrence, but it’s usually among small-time thugs engaging in one-off deals. They will never amount to anything.

For the Underworld, reputation in trade is crucial; once negative news spreads, other forces tend to avoid further transactions with them.

Currently, the Beasts Pirates have a good reputation in the underworld; as long as they don’t have ulterior motives, they won’t actively break the deal.

There is usually still a need to guard against being betrayed by the other party, such as them contacting the Marines during the transaction process. Doflamingo also considered that Tsuru’s appearance was related to this, but several times is very obviously abnormal.

But he was not worried about this issue during this time’s deal. As one of the major pirates of the New World, the Beasts Pirates are unlikely to have any connection with the Marines.

The World Government is the World Government, and the Marines are the Marines. Although the Marines are a subordinate force of the World Government, they can’t be lumped together.

Even in Doflamingo’s own plans, his future trading targets are the World Government, not the Marines. As a former Celestial Dragon, he knows too many secrets unknown to ordinary people.

“Doffy, they’re here.”

While Doflamingo and Trebol were talking, a sharp voice came from outside the room, followed by a tall and muscular man walking in.

He’s Pica, one of the officers of the Donquixote Family. Sharp voice is his characteristic and something he despises; if anyone mocks him regarding this, he would fly into rage.

Pica and Trebol chose to follow Doflamingo at the same time, and he’s one of his most trusted officers. Previously, he was monitoring the situation by the seaside.

“They’re here? Right on time.”

“Yeah, but it’s only two people, Queen the Plague and an unfamiliar girl, along with some strange flying machine.”

“It doesn’t matter; as long as they’re from Beasts Pirates, it’s enough. Let’s go, the trade is starting.”

Yamato’s existence is still unknown to the outside world; even Knight hasn’t figured out her identity. Currently only the titles “Miss Yamato” and “Oni Princess” are known.

This information was obtained from Queen and Genesect during the battle. It wasn’t because they were loud, but because they were in a battlefield environment and weren’t using something like Den Den Mushi for communication.

In such situations, normal volume wouldn’t be audible, so shouting was the only way.

However, not knowing doesn’t mean having no clue. The only person Queen would call ‘Miss’ must be a high-ranking child of the Beasts Pirates. Since Queen already holds a high position among them, Yamato must either be Kaido’s daughter or Arceus’ daughter.

Although they still harbor doubts about Arceus, they all simply regard him as an eccentric devil fruit user.

These pieces of information are still being verified internally by the World Government; of course, Doflamingo is unaware of such matters.

The trade went smoothly, with no instances of double-crossing occurring, nor were they inexplicably found by any Marines. However, the progression of the trade didn’t quite align with Doflamingo’s expectations.

The value of two Devil Fruits is considerable. Although he intended to use these fruits as a gesture of goodwill and hadn’t planned on taking money, based on his understanding, after stating that this trade was free of charge, the other party should have understood his desire to deepen cooperation.

Smart people shouldn’t have to think too hard when speaking; once he offered sincerity, the other party should have reciprocated with a contact detail or something else. However, Queen completely disregarded the norm and simply took the devil fruits and left without a word.

Not that he said nothing at all; he kindly mentioned to Doflamingo that if he wanted to give gifts next time, he should just call. In a sense, this also established a means of contact, but for some reason, he couldn’t shake the feeling that this wasn’t quite what he had in mind.

“Doffy, was this… successful?”

Watching Queen and Yamato depart on Genesect, accompanied by a few of his officers, he also felt that something was amiss, but now that they had taken off, they couldn’t just bring them back down.

“It should… be, I suppose?”

This was his first time dealing with monsters from the New World, and he couldn’t help but have some doubts about the trading style there.

On the other side, Yamato, who had already left, looked at the two fruits in the box and also felt it odd; they didn’t encounter any trouble at all, which was contrary to her expectations.

“He didn’t even ask for money; he seems like a good person.”

Doflamingo’s act of giving away things for free earned him a good person card, one that even he hadn’t anticipated.

“A good person? That guy is just a fool, Miss Yamato. Although there’s a saying that ‘There is nothing more expensive than something free,’ that doesn’t apply here.”

Queen naturally understood what Doflamingo meant, but as he was now, he had no right to discuss such matters with the Beasts Pirates. Even the farmers in Wano Country could find a Devil Fruit while tending their fields; occasionally taking out two fruits didn’t signify anything.

If he wanted to curry favor, his status and strength had to surpass the other party’s, or at least be equal, for it to be effective. The disparity between the two sides led Queen to see Doflamingo’s behavior as merely fawning.

Unless he offered a plate, which within the Beasts Pirates was practically a death-exemption plate.

“I think so too. Which normal person sells things for free? But Jack should be quite happy; these two fruits will likely be given to his subordinates.”

Jack has a strange liking for elephants, including but not limited to admiring their strength and enjoying grilled elephant steak. If she’s not mistaken, these two fruits will most likely be given to Jack’s future subordinates.

This is also related to the reward system within the Beasts Pirates at present. The highest-level reward is the complete ability bestowed by Arceus, followed by Devil Fruits modified by Arceus, then unmodified Devil Fruits and ordinary Gifters who have obtained skills all belong to the third level.

Unless it’s an exceptionally powerful fruit, regular Beasts Pirates members usually prefer to obtain skills, but no one would reject a Devil Fruit. Even though they would become afraid of sea water, it’s still a power that ordinary people don’t possess.
