APJ Chapter 435 The Strange Carbon Cycle of Wano Country

“Pay-tan, I feel like someone’s in for some bad luck.”

Watching Kaido flying across the sky, Ulti had this intuition because whenever Kaido transformed during the time Yamato and others were out, she and Page One would be in for a tough time.

This situation only eased after Yamato returned home. She successfully attracted Kaido’s attention, and since her return, Ulti and Page One had not encountered Kaido’s deadly training.

However, the initial training had already left a lasting psychological impact, and now there is a subtle trend of Kaido Stress Disorder spreading within the Beasts Pirates.

“Sister, do you think there’s a possibility that I am the one who is in bad luck?”

Page One’s address to Ulti had undergone significant changes over the past year, from sis to Sister and big sister. Naturally, this didn’t sit well with Ulti.

“Pay-tan, you’ve changed. You used to be so clingy, and now you won’t even call me sis.”

“But Sister, do you think a real sister would step on her little brother every day?”

Since coming to the Beasts Pirates, he felt that Ulti had changed. Although the competition within the Beasts Pirates was fierce, the current environment ensures safety at the same time.

Their training often teeters on the brink of death but never truly endangers their lives. In such a situation, Ulti’s brother complex was exposed.

Because she wanted to be with Page One in everything, and being a bit straightforward by nature, it has led to the current situation.

Haxorus was formidable in close combat, its sharp axe teeth surpassing most blades. However, in many aspects, she couldn’t compare to Page One’s Garchomp. For example, she couldn’t fly or burrow into the ground.

But this didn’t bother her much because Page One could fly. She could ride on Page One, and that way, she can also fly.

Her initial purpose in taking care of Page One was exactly this, though she achieved it ahead of schedule.

Under Kaido’s deadly training, Page One has already mastered flying.

This was similar to learning to ride a bicycle. Although it was challenging before mastering it, once you succeeded and remembered that feeling, it was no longer a problem.

After mastering flying, he moved on to the second course: digging holes.

As the name suggests, Garchomp is a land shark. Unlike the sky, the ground is Garchomp’s domain. Adult Garchomp can quickly dig a cave underground, and Page One was currently training this ability.

“Hey, you two, don’t slack off! There’s a lot more ground ahead!”

Queen’s urging came from behind. Page One’s hole-digging training surely couldn’t take place on the roof of Onigashima; he was supposed to dig holes and not demolish buildings. So, Queen borrowed him.

He just happened to want to cultivate a winter plantation, but with the dropping temperatures in Wano Country, the land had become somewhat hardened, making manual cultivation slow. So he set his sights on Page One, who was training to move underground.

The uneven marks on the ground were proof of Page One’s training. He still has some flaws in controlling Garchomp’s body and has not yet mastered the skill of discerning directions underground. This was where Ulti’s role came into play.

With added load on his back and directional guidance, she also held a bag of seeds. Whether it helped Page One’s training was uncertain, but she was genuinely having a great time herself.

As the year-end approached, the temperature in Wano Country began to drop. Even the trees in Kuri were beginning to turn yellow, not to mention Ringo, which was already covered in snow. However, there have been significant changes in Wano Country this year.

In the past, their way of staying warm during winter was to cut down trees. However, the current Wano Country has cultivated a large number of farmlands and orchards. The remaining trees are green plants left for environmental purposes and cannot be arbitrarily harvested. As a result, a new type of Pokémon has appeared on the streets of Wano Country.

Carkol, Coal Pokémon, is the evolved form of Rolycoly.

Compared to Rolycoly, Carkol can provide more coal and is more agile than the bulkier Coalossal. Carkol’s appearance resembles that of a small cart transporting coal, with a large amount of coal concentrated on its back. Also, whenever it opens its mouth, steam emerges from it.

Made entirely of rock, Carkol, as a Fire/Rock-type Pokémon, can produce coal within its body. In the Galar Region, people once used to use the coal dropped from Carkol for their daily lives.

Now, in Wano Country, during this season, Carkol can be seen on the streets. They stop in front of yards that have paid the carbon tax, shake their bodies, leaving enough coal for their use, and then continue on their way.

For the people of Wano Country, this is similar to paying heating costs in winter. Abundant job opportunities allow them to have extra money, so this little amount of money, they can naturally afford.

For example, Kentaro and his family in Kuri have already built a new household. Kentaro has also successfully become the owner of the purchasing station. Seeing that Carkol has begun delivering coal everywhere, Kentaro also began to replace the old chimney.

When burning charcoal, it is essential to pay attention to house ventilation, a principle well-known to the people of Wano Country. Therefore, one can see reserved chimney positions on their houses.

In this season, even the activity range of Galarian Weezing has expanded. Drifting in the air, they filter the air of Wano Country, maintaining its air quality. In winter, the floating Weezing has become a unique sight in Wano Country.

They don’t hate this job because, for Galarian Weezing, it’s like changing to a new restaurant. Moreover, the emissions from burning Carkol’s coal have always been one of their favorite foods.

Carkol’s coal delivery work continued. Their leg structure is unique, allowing them to rotate like wheels. Their top speed can reach 30 kilometers per hour, but the downside is their relatively short legs. The snow in Ringo almost blocked their path.

Therefore, Carkol has started its own road-clearing work. Flames spew from their mouths, and the snow evaporated under the burning flames, quickly revealing the ground under. They then begin their coal delivery work along the route they have cleared.

The emissions from Carkol itself and the emissions from burning coal have become new food for Weezing. After being satiated, the gases generated by Weezing are transformed into chemicals by Queen, and from them, special perfume materials are extracted.

These materials are used to create new perfumes, which are then sold through the Beasts Fruits in exchange for money. The money is then used to purchase the food that Carkol needs, creating a cyclical process within the Wano Country.
