APJ Chapter 406 Arceus Cult needs a Professional Nun

“Namuji Glacier Fang!”

An ice-blue breath shot out from Yamato’s mouth. This Namuji Glacier Fang was the result of four years of training. From its initial power, which was no stronger than an air conditioner, to its current formidable Ice Breath, capable of freezing a sea of fire, Yamato had put in countless hours of effort.

More accurately, it should be described as torture. From the flames of Little Kai and Emboar to Kaido’s Blast Breath, in order to break through that scorching environment, she was forced to push her limits and exceed them every day.

The small river ahead had long dried up, and the arched bridge above was engulfed in flames. Under the cover of Namuji Glacier Fang, the burning flames had just extinguished, but what entered her eyes were only more corpses.

More strikingly, these were the bodies of children. Many had already become unrecognizable. The flames had burned fiercely because they were fueled by these corpses.

“These people…”

At an age when they should be happily growing up, they encountered the greatest misfortune of their lives. They were from the convent in Flevance, which also served as a school. The parents of these children had succumbed to the Amber Lead Syndrome, so they were taken back by the nun of the convent.

Unlike Carmel, disguised as a nun but working as a human trafficker, this nun was genuine. However, she fell victim to the deception of soldiers.

Because some soldiers promised her the safety of the children, falsely claiming that there were evacuation ships to take them away from here. This was a lie from the soldiers, as, driven by the fear of the “epidemic,” they dared not actually do that.

It was just a means to gather them together, eliminating what they believed to be the source of the disease.

“Maria, use that to check.”

“Alright, but Yamato, don’t get your hopes too high.”

Several strands of silk shot out from her fingertips, enveloping most of the victims on the ground. The majority of these Pokémon Ability possessors were not limited to their inherent powers alone.

Combining their own abilities and talents, they all have similar developments. Babanuki’s Switch Mode is the most typical example, and Maria also has a special application for Galvantula’s abilities.

Galvantula was particularly sensitive to vibrations from its own spider web. Even if unable to see, it could determine the size and build of prey through spider web’s vibrations, unaffected by natural winds.

Maria doesn’t capture insects and birds, so her development of silk was similar to pulse diagnosis by hanging silk. Through the silk, she could determine whether a person is still alive or not. Even if there was the faintest breath and heartbeat, her silk can provide feedback.

Originally, she developed this for battlefield reconnaissance, aiming to prevent people from feigning death in a pile of corpses, thus reducing the time spent checking each one for potential threats.

However, now, Yamato has thought of a use for this ability. Her mind is sometimes quite sharp, albeit inconsistent.

The charred bodies were not tested; there was no need. However, among the remaining bodies, she did detect a faint response.

“Yamato, the nun is still alive. As for the others…”

Adults had much stronger constitution and vitality than children, so the nun was still alive. However, her life force was gradually fading.

The cross, which she had never let go of before, had fallen to the side. Her nails were caked with mud, and judging from the scratches left behind, it seems she had been crawling towards the children before falling unconscious.

She pulled out a bottle of green pills from her pocket, a specially crafted life-sustaining pill made by Nightin. It was exclusive to the Beasts Pirates, not for sale to the public. This versatile medicine could be applied externally or ingested, exhibiting a powerful hemostatic effect. It was commonly used in conjunction with an injection made by Queen, and its life-sustaining efficacy was second only to the Revival Herb.

“This should be enough. Maria, I’ll trouble you.”

By now, the gunfire in the distance had ceased. However, it wasn’t good news. The stopping of gunfire meant the soldiers had not found new targets, indicating that Flevance had likely become a ghost town.

They arrived here when the situation was already reaching its conclusion, so all they could do was wrap things up.

Yamato’s “trouble” was asking Maria to help carry the nun away. It wasn’t that Yamato lacked the strength, but carrying an adult on her current body would significantly impact her mobility. However, this was not an issue for Maria.

Being much taller than an average person, whether carrying on her shoulders or carrying in her arms wouldn’t be a problem. However, considering the condition of the injured, she chose to enter her Human-Beast form, placing the nun on the body of the spider.

Then, they continued towards the building in front of them. It was Flevance’s hospital, and the flames were spreading there as well.

The scene inside the hospital was equally horrifying. Some people were shot directly on their sickbeds, and there were also medical staff lying on the ground.

However, there weren’t many people here, and many beds were empty.

In fact, some weren’t killed by bullets but succumbed to Amber Lead Syndrome. When the Amber Lead Syndrome began to erupt, these people had already been put here. If medical supplies were sufficient, they might have survived for some time.

But with the blockade imposed by neighboring countries, medical supplies in the hospital started depleting rapidly. Losing targeted medications, many had to die in pain. So, most of them who could still move chose to flee.

There weren’t many people left in the hospital, and among them, there were almost no living people. They only found a little girl in a wardrobe.

Though she had no external injuries, her life signals were also weak. This was the sign of an outbreak of Amber Lead Syndrome. Although Amber Lead Syndrome in Flevance broke out in large numbers at almost the same time period, the impact of the disease varies depending on the individual constitution.

Yamato then had Maria take the girl away while she continued to search alone.

“Lord Arceus, Yamato is still inside.”

“I know. Let her give it another try, although it’s already meaningless.”

Apart from Yamato, he couldn’t sense any signs of life inside. Those soldiers were professionals; survivors like the nun, who were left with one last breath, were an extreme rarity.

The nun’s condition was relatively stable. Maria used silk as emergency bandaging, and the special medicine had stopped the bleeding. As for the remains of the bullet inside her body, that would be addressed in later surgery.

In fact, she had already woken up once, but as a nun, she naturally believed in God. She had always believed that there was hope at the end of the world and that the light of salvation would surely come.

So when she woke up and found herself on the back of a giant spider, she thought she had descended into hell.

This realization, as a nun, was initially hard for her to accept, so she fell unconscious once again.
