After delivering a series of deeply moving speeches, they even made a different proposal.
“To demonstrate our sincerity, we’re willing to help you accomplish your objectives first. Finding clues about Sir Luffy’s grandfather and the stone you’re searching for.”
Kanjuro and Kin’emon dropped to the ground in a formal dogeza before the two of them. Although suspicions had arisen, the relationship had not completely broken down yet, making Chopper and Brook feel somewhat embarrassed.
“But they told us not to leave, and we’re supposed to keep an eye on you.”
“Yeah, and we’re too conspicuous. Besides, you’re still wanted.”
“If you come with us, wouldn’t that mean you’re supervising us? This is Kaido’s territory, we have nowhere else to go. We won’t deceive you. As for being exposed… I have a solution. Kin’emon!”
“Kin’s Clothing Company!”
Kin’emon summoned a large costume-changing door. As he passed through it, he emerged wearing a mummy costume.
“This is specially made clothing. Next…”
“Art of Painted Skin.”
Kanjuro began drawing. Using the clothes as a canvas, he painted three-dimensional disguises onto them. This was a new technique he had come up with after spending time with Bon Kurei, and it happened to be perfect for disguise.
“Like this, we won’t be discovered, right?”
Law had no idea what happened after he left. While Kanjuro and the others were carrying out their plans, Law had already arrived in the supposedly “most dangerous” Hakumai region.
Whether it was truly dangerous or not could be debated, but Law had already witnessed its prosperity.
“Blisseeeey~~”
“The head nurse says she warmly welcomes all of you newcomers. This place possesses the finest equipment and medicinal resources in the world. Any doctor who can enter here is highly skilled, and she hopes your character is worthy of your medical skills.”
During the hospital’s welcoming ceremony, a Blissey dressed in a nurse’s uniform stepped onto the stage, accompanied by a human translator.
“Blisseeeey~~”
“You’ll meet many companions here. She hopes you’ll earn their recognition as soon as possible. Now, you may follow your assigned doctors to familiarize yourselves with the facilities.”
After saying a few words, the Blissey left the podium, and Law, together with several others, met the doctor assigned to guide them.
“My name is Wilson. You’re not newly recruited interns, so I won’t waste time with unnecessary talk. First, I’ll take you to familiarize yourselves with the equipment here.”
If Wilson were merely training newcomers, he would not have been this jolly. He had no interest in wasting time teaching a novice who only possessed theoretical knowledge. However, all of the recruits this time were experienced doctors from other islands, which was why he had been assigned to them.
“The family residential district is nearby, but don’t think the work here is easy. You’ll constantly encounter all kinds of unusual patients.”
Before he had even finished speaking, a stretcher was pushed past them. Lying on it was a person crackling with electricity from head to toe.
“See that? Those uniforms belong to workers from the Mareep Ranch. They can never remember the safety regulations. They always take off their rubber gloves to touch the wool, and then they get shocked into paralysis.
You should remember this too: don’t touch Pokémon without permission. Poisoning, paralysis, burns—every year people get injured in completely avoidable accidents like these.
Especially Mareep. The electricity generated by their wool is unpredictable. Don’t lose your common sense just because they’re cute.
Spend some time reading the Wano Country Safety Handbook during your breaks. It won’t hurt.”
“Um, that person just now looked like a veteran employee, right?”
“Sharp observation. Remember this: veteran employees are actually more likely to get shocked. They think it won’t happen to them, so they take those kinds of risks. Though, to be fair, that wool really does feel amazing…
Alright, enough about that. I’ll show you the specialized treatment rooms first. Once you’ve diagnosed an illness, you’ll be able to prescribe the appropriate treatment.”
Wilson led Law and the other new doctors through the facility, familiarizing them with its layout one section at a time.
Comfey Psychological Comfort Room.
Audino Examination Room.
Chansey Nurse Station.
Berry Pharmacy.
“I remember you’re a surgeon. Conveniently, one of the emergency room doctors wants to take some leave. You can cover for them for a while. The cases are mostly fractures, wound suturing, and gunshot injuries. That shouldn’t be a problem for you, right?”
“Of course. Suturing is one of my specialties.”
Gunshot wounds. The kind of injury pirates often suffered. It would be convenient for gathering information. However, in the blink of an eye, things developed beyond Law’s expectations.
As soon as he rounded a corner, an old acquaintance appeared before him.
Senor?!
What Law didn’t know was that after arriving in Wano Country, Senor had become a regular visitor to the Pokémon Center. His wife had now developed conditioned responses to the outside world and could even answer some questions instinctively.
But deep down, she was still shutting herself off, unwilling to face the world. Yet for Senor, this was already a rare breakthrough.
Aside from regularly climbing Mt. Fuji, he spent most of his time here.
Senor was still dressed in his trademark baby outfit, but the smile tugging at the corner of his pacifier-filled mouth could not be hidden. According to the latest diagnosis, the doctors believed that after another four to six treatment courses, his wife would regain her ability to hold conversations.
“Senor’s here again. Right on schedule.”
“He truly loves his wife. I heard he only started wearing that outfit because it was the one thing that could get a reaction from her.”
Two nurses hurried past while discussing Senor’s situation. Their pace reflected an unspoken rule of the hospital: unless someone was literally on the verge of death, there was no running.
Law quietly pulled his face mask a little higher.
At the moment, he was fully equipped with a mask, gloves, and a surgical cap, looking exactly like a lead surgeon about to enter an operating room. Only his eyes were visible.
Senor’s attention was completely focused on his wife and never drifted toward the new doctor whose build was identical to Law’s.
Pushing the wheelchair, Senor passed by Law and headed toward the Comfey’s treatment room. Just as Law was about to breathe a sigh of relief, his nerves tensed once more.
“Fuffuffuffu. Senor, you’re here after all. Looks like she’s recovering quite well.”
If Wano Country ever held a contest for its most idle resident, Doflamingo would undoubtedly rank near the top. Other than reading newspapers, he spent much of his time wandering around Wano Country, aimlessly searching for anything that interested him.
Occasionally, he also visited his former subordinates, such as Lao G, who was enjoying retirement, and Senor, who had devoted himself entirely to his family.
“Doflamingo…”
It was a voice Law would never forget. From the sound alone, he could tell that Doflamingo was less than ten meters away. The problem was that Kikoku was not on him; it was hidden inside a flower bed.
The syringe in a nearby nurse’s hand, the surgical knife currently being sterilized outside the equipment room ahead. Law had already begun calculating whether the tools presently available could help him achieve his goal.
“Like this… it might actually work.”
Law brought his fingers together, preparing to activate his ability. But just then, an unexpected change occurred.
