“Who do we have here? Linlin, what’s the matter, are you planning to host another tea party?”
“Mamamama~ For something like that I wouldn’t need to contact you directly. The news has already spread all across the sea. Don’t you have anything to say about it, Kaido?”
“Oh, you mean that Eternal Pose? So what about it, what are you planning to do?”
As soon as Charlotte Linlin brought it up, Kaido immediately understood what she meant.
For the mysterious One Piece, countless pirates held an obsession, and Charlotte Linlin was no exception. In fact, she carried quite a bit of resentment over it.
After all, one of Roger’s Road Poneglyphs had been obtained from her. Charlotte Linlin had always been annoyed about that, believing Roger had stolen what belonged to her.
So it was perfectly normal for her to contact him after hearing this news. Kaido just hadn’t expected her to come so quickly.
“What am I going to do? Kaido, don’t tell me you’re planning to keep that One Piece all to yourself?”
“Worororo! Linlin, we’re pirates. Whoever gets the One Piece does so by their own skills. No one ever said I have to share it with you.”
Kaido’s tone suddenly turned cold. He did have a deep history with Big Mom, but that relationship only held as long as Charlotte Linlin didn’t touch his core interests.
Once their interests clashed, it would only be a matter of time before everything fell apart.
“Kaido, don’t forget, you still owe me a huge favor.”
“Other than that, don’t you have anything else to say…?”
Charlotte Linlin bringing up that old matter again made Kaido extremely irritated. To be fair, when they were young, Charlotte Linlin had indeed treated him well.
Back on the Rocks ship, she had provided considerable protection to the yet-to-mature Kaido. Later she even taught him the techniques of the Giants, offered guidance in his Haki training, and finally gave him the Mythical Zoan Fish-Fish Fruit.
According to Charlotte Linlin herself, Kaido owed her a life-debt that he could never repay.
Every time she brought this up, Kaido felt extremely annoyed. It wasn’t that he refused to acknowledge it, but sometimes Charlotte Linlin asked for far too much.
“Linlin, you should understand something. That favor can’t be used to threaten me for the rest of my life. Are you planning to use it here?”
“No. Right now I’m just curious, did you really obtain that Eternal Pose?”
“No. It was destroyed in the aftermath of my battle.”
Kaido didn’t lie. He simply gave Big Mom a direct answer. Whether she believed him or not wasn’t Kaido’s concern.
“Destroyed? What a pity.”
Charlotte Linlin didn’t actually suspect Kaido of lying. That simply wasn’t his style.
If Kaido had truly obtained the Eternal Pose, even if he didn’t want to share it, he wouldn’t lie and say he hadn’t found it.
【Get lost. That thing is mine. If you dare come, I’ll kill you.】
That would be the kind of words Kaido would have used. Charlotte Linlin wasn’t completely brainless. So long as her eating disorder wasn’t acting up, she could function like a normal person.
When she was young, she had sailed on Rocks’ ship. That ship was filled with scheming and treachery, and even with her tyrannical strength, life there would have been difficult without some intelligence.
To be precise, the current Emperors of the Sea weren’t lacking brains. They simply had the luxury of choosing not to use them.
They could safely leave the affairs of their pirate crews to others and simply do whatever they wanted.
The more capable their subordinates were, the easier their lives became. Kaido, Shanks, and Charlotte Linlin were all living examples of this, and even now it wasn’t an exception.
For example, when Red Hair made his decision and came here, Beckman was busy dealing with issues within their territory.
While Charlotte Linlin was pondering what to do next, Katakuri was also keeping the affairs within their territory running in perfect order.
“But if this news is false… the World Government must really think highly of you.
Kaido, there have been quite a few troublesome matters in your territory lately, haven’t there? Do you need my help?
If it’s you asking, I’d agree.”
“No need for you to worry about it. My subordinates are very reliable, they can handle it just fine. I still have things to do. If that’s all you wanted to say, then this conversation is over.”
Kaido had no intention of continuing the conversation with Charlotte Linlin, but she still had more to say.
“Wait, Kaido.”
“Hm? What else do you want?”
“I heard that the brat Red Hair is currently with you. We have an alliance, so what are you trying to do behind my back?”
“Your information network is quite fast, Linlin.”
The news that Red Hair had come here with him should theoretically be known by very few people. The Kuja wouldn’t spread such information, nor would Red Hair himself, and the Beasts Pirates certainly wouldn’t do such a thing.
Yet Charlotte Linlin, all the way on Whole Cake Island, had received this news. That truly surprised Kaido.
“Mamamama~ Well now, you have your skills, and I have mine. So what exactly are you planning to do with that brat?”
“That’s none of your business. Our alliance only concerns matters of the Underworld. I have no obligation to report things like this to you.”
“Don’t be so irritable, Kaido. Our relationship goes far deeper than yours with Red Hair. That brat didn’t come to your territory just to visit, did he? If you two really plan to form an alliance, how about adding me into it?”
After learning through her own channels that Red Hair might be forming an alliance with Kaido, Charlotte Linlin had grown irritated.
She understood the situation of the seas well and knew that Kaido was no longer that little brother he once was.
The Beasts Pirates had already become the most terrifying monster on these seas.
Charlotte Linlin still had confidence in herself and believed she could contend with Kaido. But the problem was that, aside from herself, in both quality and quantity the Big Mom Pirates could no longer compare to the Beasts Pirates.
Dressrosa was a good example. Leaving aside other things, just Yamato alone, who could go toe-to-toe with Redfield, was something the Big Mom Pirates couldn’t handle.
If pirates wanted to maintain balance, the only possibility was for the Big Mom Pirates and the Red Hair Pirates to form an alliance. Only then could they achieve parity at the officer level.
But if Kaido formed an alliance with Red Hair first, then she would be left alone, and that would be dangerous.
So Charlotte Linlin deliberately brought up the idea of an alliance to probe Kaido’s intentions.
There was nothing shameful about such a thing. If she had a suitable partner, she would have long ago tried to tie Kaido down through a political marriage.
Unlike the fake alliance with Germa, a formal alliance with Kaido would bring her far greater benefits.
