Terrance didn’t know if anyone had ever used this kind of training method to temper their psychic power…
But he could feel a subtle change in his own psychic power!
Perhaps due to focusing his mind while enduring the impact of the waterfall, his meditation efficiency had increased nearly tenfold!
Although, even with this nearly tenfold improvement, it was still a negligible change for Terrance. If he wanted to materialize his psychic power into telekinesis, given his current gap in strength, it would still take a long time. However, this did not stop it from being a highly effective method of honing psychic power.
“Training under a waterfall actually has such a miraculous effect on refining psychic power?” Terrance was secretly amazed.
Could external pressure during meditation really bring about such changes?
The first thing that came to Terrance’s mind was not himself. Even if he practiced this way every day, year after year, and truly made great progress until he developed telekinesis, it wouldn’t hold much practical significance.
Given his human physique, he was simply not built to withstand the force of the waterfall for long.
However, just because Terrance couldn’t do it didn’t mean Pokémon couldn’t.
Pokémon were naturally much more physically resilient than humans and could endure the pressure of the waterfall for extended periods. Terrance’s idea was that if Gallade trained here, its strength would likely improve significantly.
“Judging from my experience just now, training psychic power under a waterfall requires both meditative state and an appropriate level of waterfall force—neither can be missing…”
“Gallade, with its Psychic and Fighting type, is the perfect match for this.”
“Most Psychic-type Pokémon have frail bodies. A Pokémon like Gallade, possessing both Fighting and Psychic type, is extremely rare in the world.” Terrance’s eyes sparkled. Because of this, even if someone had discovered this training method before, it wouldn’t have been widely applicable. It was practically tailored for Pokémon that were both physically strong and capable of using the move ‘Calm Mind.’
For this very reason, even though Terrance had failed the trial himself, he was still overjoyed. Compared to his own progress, what he truly looked forward to as a Breeder was the improvement of his Pokémon’s strength.
“But this is all just speculation for now… The real effects can only be determined after testing.”
In just a brief moment, Terrance had already thought through many possibilities. Based on his observations and experiences, he was already formulating a suitable training plan for his Pokémon. It had to be said—Terrance was truly a competent Trainer.
“Do you want to head back and rest?” Mr. Hala asked.
“Although you failed this time, you know the way now. Next time, you can come on your own—until you earn Gumshoos’ recognition.”
“Alright.” Terrance nodded and said, “But I feel like I can try a few more times. I’m not in a hurry to go back and rest.”
Hala nodded as well. “In that case, you can try a few more times on your own. However, debris often falls down the waterfall, so you’ll need to be careful while meditating alone. Someone must keep watch for you up there.”
At this moment, the Yungoos had also come down. Judging by their wet bodies, they had been quite busy up there.
“Thanks for the reminder, I’ll be careful,” Terrance said.
Mr. Hala left, leaving Terrance alone. Gumshoos didn’t believe Terrance would make much progress in a short time either. It casually waved a few times to express its thoughts before turning around and leaving with its underlings.
“Alright, Gumshoos is gone now,” Terrance said.
“They’ve all left,” Rotom Pokédex added. “So, Terrance, when do you plan to take the trial again, Roto?”
“Well…” Terrance scratched his head. “For me, passing or failing this island’s trial is just a formality—it doesn’t mean much. More importantly… come out, Gallade.”
Terrance threw out Gallade’s Poké Ball. With a flash of white light, Gallade appeared in front of him.
“Alola, Gallade!” Rotom Pokédex greeted quickly upon seeing Gallade.
Gallade gave a slight nod in return, then looked toward Terrance.
“Gallade, today’s training is a little different. I found a new special training method. I’m not sure how effective it is yet, so I need you to try it out.”
“Gall~ade?” Gallade’s eyes gleamed with interest. A new training method was definitely appealing to it.
After briefly explaining it to Gallade, Terrance pointed toward the waterfall. Gallade nodded and instantly teleported to the base of the waterfall.
Then, as Terrance called out Castform, the small Pokémon flew up to the top of the waterfall to keep watch. Meanwhile, Gallade slowly sat down in a cross-legged position, letting the waterfall crash against its body as it closed its eyes and entered a “meditative state.”
Terrance observed Gallade closely, while Rotom Pokédex kept track of the time. Before long, Gallade voluntarily exited its meditative state and teleported back to Terrance’s side.
“How was it?” Terrance asked.
After learning the details from Gallade, Terrance was pleasantly surprised. It was exactly as he had expected—training under the waterfall’s baptism was indeed an ingenious way to refine psychic power. It seemed that Teleport could still improve further.
Of course, this method had two essential prerequisites: first, the ability to efficiently utilize psychic power through the move Calm Mind; and second, a strong body capable of withstanding the waterfall’s force. Both were indispensable.
“But… Gumshoos had acted rather strangely,” Terrance murmured, rubbing his chin.
“Rotom Pokédex, did you record everything that happened with Gumshoos under the waterfall?” Terrance asked.
“I recorded it all, Roto!” Rotom Pokédex floated over to Terrance and played a video, zooming in on specific parts.
Gumshoos sat in meditation calmly, its expression unchanged. However, one detail caught Terrance’s attention.
“Its body… is moving?” Terrance rubbed his eyes in confusion. Due to the camera angle, he couldn’t see clearly, but it seemed that as Gumshoos endured the waterfall’s impact, its body made subtle, rhythmic adjustments. In Terrance’s eyes, this movement had a natural beauty—there was nothing awkward or forced about it. It was definitely not just random swaying caused by the rushing water.
“It’s moving…”
“It’s moving…”
Rotom Pokédex had also locked onto the slight changes in Gumshoos’ posture.
“This is…” As a Coordinator, Terrance quickly grasped what was happening. It was a technique specifically designed to dissipate force from water impact—a clear demonstration of having mastery over power control technique.
“Interesting… Gumshoos is really a genius,” Terrance thought to himself. Then, he turned to the endlessly flowing waterfall, then to Gallade, and said, “I’ve told you before—your weakness lies in your control over power, your energy, and your body.”
“See that waterfall? Before we continue refining your psychic power, I’m assigning you a new task.”
