Strictly speaking, Shayna’s Red Chain is no longer the original version of the Red Chain, but rather version 2.0.
Yamato’s Takeru entered the 7.0 era due to wear and tear.
But Shayna’s Red Chain is different.
Originally, it was created to restrain Pokémon Ability Users—that is, potential traitors among the Blessed Ones. But so far, no such traitors have appeared among the Blessed Ones, which is a good thing. However, it also means the Red Chain has had almost no opportunity to make an appearance.
Coupled with Shayna’s personality, this chain has mostly served as a trump card kept in reserve, with far more symbolic significance than practical use.
This differs somewhat from the Arceus Cult’s emphasis on practicality, so during a round of weapon upgrades, Arceus also upgraded the Red Chain to allow it to target ordinary Devil Fruit Users.
Although Shayna has impressive mastery of Armament Haki, against certain strange abilities, being skilled in Haki doesn’t necessarily mean she can land a hit. Having a specialized weapon gives Shayna’s combat power a noticeable boost.
The Red Chain doesn’t cause ordinary Devil Fruit Users to fall into a weakened state, but it can accurately capture their physical form. Pizarro is a case in point.
After he was slammed into the ground, Shayna’s Red Chain once again transformed into a chained spear, its sharp cross-shaped spear-head pointing at the members of the Blackbeard Pirates.
“Which one of you wants to go first?”
Although Kaido was still standing nearby and there was no way Blackbeard could escape, if things reached the point where Kaido had to step in, it would be a disgrace to both Shayna and King.
She wouldn’t interfere in King’s fight, but she also wouldn’t allow anyone else to interrupt him.
“Don’t even think about running. The two of them won’t let us go. They both have the ability to fly, and behind them is that lunatic Kaido—there’s no escape.
If you want to live, grab that woman and help the captain take down Conflagration!”
Laffitte glanced at the surrounding pirates and had already noticed the thoughts forming in the minds of some of them.
This hastily assembled Blackbeard Pirates had no sense of camaraderie whatsoever, especially those who had just come out of Impel Down.
If Blackbeard were to really fall, they would only use the moment when he draws the enemy’s attention to run away—they would never risk their lives to hold off the enemy.
Talking about loyalty with people like this is pointless. Only self-interest can keep them in line.
These people currently didn’t have a penny to their names—the only thing that could make them nervous was their own lives.
“Meow, that woman’s weapon is strange. It feels just like that freak Teach’s ability—it can seal people’s abilities. Damn it, why are there so many weapons that counter Devil Fruit Users now?”
“Murunfuffuffu, who cares about all that? Since she doesn’t want to let us go, let’s just capture her.
I’ve always hated the Beasts Pirates anyway, and I want both her clothes and her weapon.”
Devon’s eyes were filled with greed.
She was originally skilled in using whips, but because she hadn’t found a suitable weapon in Impel Down, she had picked up a stolen spear instead.
The power of the red chain in Shayna’s hand had triggered the greed in her heart.
At the same time, Devon also had a great fondness for beautiful clothes. She’d long held resentment toward the prison uniform she was wearing, and now, looking at Shayna in front of her, all she wanted was to take everything from her.
Moreover, the reason she was imprisoned was because she had run into Olga. She had not forgotten that grudge over the years.
Shayna’s attitude and Laffitte’s words made it clear to them that unless they dealt with this woman in front of them, they wouldn’t be able to do anything else—so Devon was the first to move. Acting alongside her was Shiryu.
He had originally been the Head Jailer of Impel Down, but his personality was extremely cruel and bloodthirsty. He often killed prisoners without cause, simply for amusement.
This violated Impel Down’s rules, and after repeated warnings from Magellan failed to rein him in, he was finally imprisoned. When Impel Down was invaded, due to a shortage of combatants, Magellan had released him.
The idea had been to use his ability, but Shiryu betrayed them on the spot and even brought antidotes to Blackbeard and his crew. Without him, they would have been wiped out by Magellan.
Shiryu’s recruitment into the crew was more proactive than that of the other pirates, and now he also chose to make his move.
Although this was their first time working together, the two cooperated with surprising coordination, attacking Shayna from both sides, each aiming for the base of her wings.
Facing the incoming attackers, the flames behind Shayna changed color, turning the same blue as King’s.
The two of them had trained with different focuses, but ultimately came from the same tribe. Some fundamental things were still the same—such as mastery over Lunarians’ abilities. What King could do, Shayna could as well.
With Blue Flame mode plus the Red Chain, not to mention the boost from Mega Evolution, Shayna was now in full combat mode.
If King hadn’t invoked the honor of their race when making his vow, Shayna wouldn’t have entered this state right from the beginning. But after King said those words, everything changed.
Clang! Clang!
The two attacks struck Shayna, but had no effect. In Blue Flame mode, the defense of a Lunarian is terrifying—given their abilities, even attempting to break through that defense is extremely difficult.
“Very well, then let’s start with you two.”
The Red Chain transformed into a pair of knuckle-blades in Shayna’s hands. Blue flames traced a beautiful arc through the air, slicing toward the two opponents like the scythe of the Grim Reaper.
Shayna had cleared away everyone in the way, leaving King and Blackbeard with a wide, unobstructed space to fight. And King did not let down Shayna’s efforts to create that space—he swung his sword down again and again at Blackbeard, intending to behead him directly.
“Black Vortex!”
Dark energy gathered in the palm of his hand as Blackbeard barely managed to catch King’s blade, absorbing the flames King released.
“Wait, wait! I think we can talk this through—there’s no need to make this a fight to the death!”
To survive, Blackbeard would do anything—he would even kneel and call someone father if it meant staying alive. As long as he lived, he believed he would have the chance to make a comeback.
He didn’t consider himself a match for King. With Kaido refusing to cooperate, he now wanted to use his words to persuade King to change targets—especially after seeing the same blue flames ignite on Shayna. It seemed he’d realized something.
“There can’t be two identical abilities in this world… and you two are siblings!”
King ignored Blackbeard’s nonsense and kicked him hard in the chest, sending him flying. He immediately flew after him, sword raised, aiming straight for Blackbeard’s neck. Blackbeard barely managed to dodge by rolling out of the way.
“I once heard people say that in the past, on the Red Line, there was a legendary tribe of gods. They had white hair and black wings, and their blazing flames allowed them to survive in any environment—they were truly a tribe of gods!”
