APJ Chapter 952 Strange Brother and Sister

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

Lami’s appearance had changed significantly from when she was a child. When Law first saw her in the newspaper, he couldn’t even be sure whether she was really his sister.

After that, Law went through a long period of preparation before finally entering the Grand Line. During his voyage, like some others, he became a bounty collector—mainly collecting Lami’s bounty posters.

The members of the Arceus Cult generally acted in a low-key manner. Except in extremely special circumstances, they wouldn’t participate in battles and would even actively attack pirates. However, in the eyes of the World Government and the Marines, they were still considered a subsidiary branch of the Beasts Pirates.

Lami, who often moved around Sabaody Archipelago with Isuka, eventually ended up with a bounty on her head. Even though she didn’t kill many people, her ability to take down an entire squad of Marines with a mere wave of her hand was enough to strike fear into those who didn’t understand her.

She was essentially a walking, humanoid biological weapon. If not for Queen standing in front of her, Lami would likely have drawn even greater attention.

Law wasn’t aware of all this, but he discovered some clues via her bounty poster. Through analysing her picture, he broke down Lami’s facial features into data and compared them to his own, discovering some similarities.

This wasn’t definitive proof, but the overlapping data, combined with the identical names, gave him renewed hope.

Encountering Lami at Sabaody Archipelago was an unexpected surprise.

Shachi and Penguin didn’t realize that Lami was the same woman Law had been obsessively tracking through her bounty posters. In those posters, Lami was dressed in casual clothes, but at this moment, she was wearing a proper nun’s habit.

According to Misu, she was already a qualified nun.

The design of the nun’s habit hadn’t changed much, but the emblem of Thousand Arms had been subtly incorporated into the collar, cuffs, and other places.

Upon closer inspection, one could see that the metallic decorations on her clothing cleverly formed a simple version of the Thousand Arms symbol.

The original designer of the attire was Misu, but later, a starfish from Fishman Island provided some suggestions, which ultimately shaped the final design of the new religious attire.

The biggest change was the headscarf. Its wrapping style originated from the ancient Sinnoh region and was similar to the design seen in the Hisui version of female characters.

With such a major transformation in her attire, those who weren’t specifically paying attention wouldn’t even recognize her. In this world where face blindness was common, it was already impressive that Penguin and Shachi found that they look somewhat similar.

【Who are you?】

“I…”

These three words sent a chill through Law’s heart. Just as he was about to reveal his identity, Lami interrupted him—and what she said rekindled his hope.

“Ah, I remember who you are now—Captain of the Heart Pirates, Trafalgar Law, with a bounty of 200 million Berry.”

The hope that had just ignited was extinguished once again. With just a few words, Lami made Law experience the highs and lows of life. At first, there was unfamiliarity—then, for a moment, Law thought she had recognized him. But in the end, this was how she addressed him.

She did recognize him, but not in the way Law had hoped. His sister would never call him that.

“Hah…”

Taking several deep breaths, Law calmed his emotions. He had considered many possible scenarios, and there were worse outcomes than this.

He still couldn’t be 100% certain that Lami was truly Lami, so he wouldn’t lose his composure just yet.

“May I have a few minutes of your time, Miss Lami?”

“I’m not interested. We have nothing to talk about.”

“Please wait—I just want to know about your relationship with Sister Misu…”

Seeing that Lami was about to leave, Law immediately mentioned Misu’s name.

Not knowing Lami’s exact situation, Misu was the only other known survivor from Flevance besides himself.

“You know Sister Misu? Are you one of the children she took care of outside?”

Unlike Lami, Misu held a higher position in the Arceus Cult, yet she did not have a bounty. Most of her activities were conducted in secret, and she had very little interaction with the Marines.

Even those from the Marine Dojo had no impression of her due to the influence of Shichiseiken. Few people in the outside world even knew her name.

Lami assumed that Law had once received Misu’s help. Recognizing from her attire that she belonged to the same religious order as Misu, she thought that was why he had stopped her.

“In a way, yes. I was born in Flevance and used to listen to Sister’s teachings.”

Law deliberately pronounced the name “Flevance” carefully, closely observing Lami’s reaction.

“Huh? You’re from Flevance too? That’s wonderful! Sister will be so happy to hear that—she always thought there were no other survivors from Flevance.”

“Then you…”

“Huh? I’m Sister’s adopted daughter. She took me in and gave me a home when I had nowhere to go.”

Due to Amber Lead poisoning, Lami had suffered severe memory loss at the time and could no longer recall what had happened before.

To keep Lami from sinking into grief, Misu fabricated a false background for her, allowing Lami to start a new life.

Misu had no interest in the outside world’s news about pirates and had never noticed any information about Law, so she never mentioned such things to Lami.

She was also vague about the past, so Lami had no idea when Misu had started believing in the Arceus Cult, nor did she notice the significance of Law’s mention of Flevance.

In Lami’s understanding, she was just an orphan adopted by Misu.

“What’s your name? No—what’s your last name? And don’t you have any siblings or anything like that?”

Lami’s previous words made Law feel that something was off, so he refrained from bluntly saying that he might be her brother.

If the Lami before him was indeed his sister, then she had clearly lost that part of her memory. A sudden shock could have negative consequences, so Law chose to guide her slowly instead.

“Nope, pirate sir.

Lami is the name given to me by Sister. You’re acting a little strange. If you’re concerned about Sister, I can pass along your regards to her.

If you have the ability and can pass the screening, you could even join us.”

Recruiting new members for the crew wasn’t Lami’s responsibility. Misu had helped many people outside, but just having that connection didn’t mean someone could join them so easily.

Gurgle…

The sound of a growling stomach reached Lami’s ears. Looking at the nearby children drooling with hunger, she realized she had been delayed too long.

“I have things to do. If we get the chance, see you in the New World, pirate sir.”

Lami was about to leave, but Law wasn’t going to let this rare opportunity slip away. He needed to get to the bottom of this—he couldn’t believe that Misu had coincidentally adopted a girl who bore such a resemblance to his sister and even given her the same name.

But before he could ask anything else, the wall beside them suddenly exploded, sending a shower of rubble and bricks flying toward them…
